However, it turns out that there was once a different kind of currency that would have been featured in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/fortnite\/\"><em>Fortnite<\/em><\/a>, though it was scrapped for one reason or another.<\/p>\n<p>HYPEX, a well-known\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em> leaker who has proven to be extremely accurate in the past, recently made this revelation on Twitter. The tweet gained quite a bit of attention, amassing about 9,000 likes and 300 re-tweets. According to HYPEX,\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em> once had plans to introduce a currency other than <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-v-bucks-discount-epic-games\/\">V-Bucks<\/a> that was called Battle Bucks. Battle Bucks were apparently meant to be part of Chapter 1 Season 1, all the way back when the battle royale first launched.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-cherry-captain-marvel-ghost-rider\/\">Dataminers Discover the Next Marvel Hero to Join Fortnite<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>HYPEX also confirmed that Battle Bucks would have been a currency earned by &#8220;playing the Battle Royale game mode.&#8221; What this means exactly is up for interpretation. It&#8217;s possible that Battle Bucks would have just been earned in the Battle Pass like V-Bucks, but it&#8217;s also possible that they would have been earned in actual battle royale matches. It&#8217;s also unclear what purpose Battle Bucks would have served. It&#8217;s possible they would have been a secondary currency alongside V-Bucks, but it could also be that Battle Bucks would have been the BR-exclusive currency, with V-Bucks reserved for <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-save-the-world-apple-mac-epic-games-refund\/\">Save the World<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HYPEX\/status\/1314203532849946628\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In any case, Epic Games decided to do away with the Battle Bucks idea prior to launching the first season of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-collector-museum\/\"><em>Fortnite<\/em> battle royale mode<\/a>. It&#8217;s unclear why this decision was made, and since Epic Games has not publicly acknowledged Battle Bucks, there&#8217;s a chance players may never know for sure.<\/p>\n<p><em>Fortnite<\/em>&#8216;s microtransactions have long been a source of controversy for the battle royale game. There have been reports of people spending absurd amounts of money on V-Bucks in\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em>, and the currency has also been linked to bullying in schools. Some kids have bullied others for having the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/fortnite-default-insult-kids\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">default\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em> skin<\/a>, meaning that they were unable to acquire V-Bucks to purchase any of the alternate skins that are sold in the shop.<\/p>\n<p>V-Bucks and\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em> microtransactions are also at the heart of the ongoing legal battles between Epic Games and Apple. For the uninitiated, Epic Games started to allow players to purchase\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em> microtransactions in-game instead of through the App Store, essentially allowing Epic Games to circumvent Apple&#8217;s fees and keep all the money for itself.
