God of War<\/strong><\/em> was one of the best received games of 2018, due to both its deep new gameplay mechanics and a more complex version of Kratos. Over two years later, concept art for the Norse version of Kratos has been released, showing just how similar the God of War<\/em><\/a> protagonist\u2019s official armor looked to the first concept.<\/p>\n

While many fans are getting as hyped as possible for God of War Ragnarok<\/em>, even making memes about the God of War<\/em> sequel\u2019s reveal<\/a>, the incredibly talented art director at Santa Montica Studio has posted some early Kratos concept art on his official Twitter. Raf Grassetti also put up the final model for Kratos on the side to allow for an easier comparison between the original and final design.<\/p>\n

Between the two images, it is a bit surprising to see how close Grassetti\u2019s first attempt at designing Kratos was to the final version of the character. With both designs rocking Kratos\u2019s large beard and similar lower body armor, the core idea for the older Kratos seems to have remained. One noticeable difference, however, is the shoulder armor worn by Kratos. The official design is far less fancy than the one seen in the concept art, as the fur from the original design would fit better in the winter setting teased for\u00a0God of War<\/em>\u2019s upcoming sequel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kratos seems slightly more muscular in the first concept as well, with a more aged body in the final design of the character. Lastly, and perhaps more importantly, Kratos is seen dual wielding weapons in the first concept art. Rather than two different weapon types, however, Kratos appears to be holding a second Leviathon axe in his other hand. Perhaps two axes were originally intended for God of War<\/em> 2018, functioning more like the character\u2019s iconic Blades of Chaos. With the Leviathon axe likely to play an important role in Ragnarok<\/em><\/a>, however, two of the throwable weapons may have made the weapon feel less special and could have led to balancing issues.<\/p>\n
