Assassin’s Creed Valhalla<\/em><\/strong> is the latest installment to the Assassin’s Creed<\/em> franchise and Ubisoft Montreal is bringing back a returning feature with the game. Similar to how Assassin’s Creed 2’s<\/em> Ezio<\/a> had a place to call home in Monteriggioni, Valhalla<\/em> will have the player character Eivor do the same with the viking settlement of Ravensthorpe set in Ancient Britain.<\/p>\n

More\u00a0details on the Eivor’s settlement in Valhalla<\/em><\/a> were shared by the game’s level designer, David Bolle. He explains how the village settlement of Ravensthorpe is more than just a place to return to and stock up on fresh supplies for the player, and it will host a thriving community that grows and expands with the player. Bolle says that it’s the “centerpiece” where many narratives, quests, and story beats flow back\u00a0into from the wider plot of Valhalla<\/em>. Ravensthorpe\u00a0will start off in a\u00a0meager state,\u00a0but players will be able to expand the layout and customize it.<\/p>\n

Eivor can choose which buildings are made from a selection of other structures that carry their own function in Ravensthorpe and the wider game. This includes the\u00a0blacksmith to upgrade weapons,\u00a0barracks for training and designing a Jomsvikingr lieutenant, a stable to train & personalize mounts for Eivor to\u00a0ride, an aviary to customize their\u00a0raven, a trading post for resources, and more. Various\u00a0buildings provide their own\u00a0self-explanatory services especially\u00a0cosmetic ones that allow players to further customize Eivor, the settlement, and its people, e.g.\u00a0the tattooist provides tattoos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are additional structures like a brewery, bakery, and\u00a0a shipyard \u2014 all of which can be upgraded \u2014 that provide some means of leveling up\u00a0Eivor and their forces in one way or another. Other buildings, like\u00a0farms, provide food for feasts\u00a0that can buff players’ warriors before setting out on a raid.\u00a0A notable building is the Hidden Ones’ bureau<\/a> run by Hytham, a member\u00a0of\u00a0the proto-Assassin Order who provides Eivor targets to eliminate from their common enemy, the Order of Ancients aka the proto-Templar Order.<\/p>\n

However, the settlement gameplay doesn’t stop at constructing buildings as it extends to the Viking people who live within\u00a0it. Among the locations in\u00a0Assassin’s Creed Valhalla<\/em><\/a>, the core settlement\u00a0is where the hub RPG element takes root.\u00a0Ubisoft Montreal intends for the people of Ravensthorpe\u00a0to be both invaders and settlers, and the settlement will be able to showcase the latter. As Eivor, players can converse with the vendors of these buildings, talk\u00a0with the individual settlers, pet cats & dogs, strike up romances to\u00a0date people, and settle disputes between others.<\/p>\n

Some\u00a0characters from the main campaign will\u00a0show up and even join\u00a0the settlement, which creates new questlines for players to\u00a0follow up on. The goal is for Ravensthorpe to be a thriving community that\u00a0develops and grows as players\u00a0progress in Eivor’s journey in\u00a0Valhalla<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla<\/em><\/strong> releases November 10, 2020, for the PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X with a PS5 release on November 12.<\/p>\n
