The method requires far more effort than most people would be willing to put in, but reinforces that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/doom\/\"><em>Doom<\/em><\/a>\u00a0really is playable anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>One of the longest-running\u00a0endeavors in gaming is porting <em>Doom\u00a0<\/em>to every possible device. Although the game has received a huge number of official ports, fans have ported it to devices on which no one would ever feasibly use. In recent weeks, this has included\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-pregnancy-test\/\">Doom\u00a0<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-pregnancy-test\/\">running on a pregnancy test<\/a> and a refrigerator.\u00a0Still, not all fan ports are gimmicks. Some, like\u00a0a fan-made port to the TI-84 graphing calculator, have likely been enjoyed by thousands worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/minecraft-mod-doom-sheep\/\">Minecraft Modder Plays DOOM on Sheep<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>YouTuber Equalo posted their unique potato<em>\u00a0<\/em>setup earlier this month, in what is not the only potato-related gaming news of 2020 given a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/pokemon-potato-chips\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Pokemon<\/em>\u00a0potato chip brand deal<\/a>.\u00a0Equalo relied on the fact that inserting a galvanized nail into a potato causes a reaction that generates a very small amount of electricity.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of a few days, Equalo boiled a huge number of potatoes and cut them into over 750 slices total. Equalo had initially intended to run\u00a0<em>Doom<\/em> on a Raspberry Pi Zero, but when that failed instead used a TI-84 graphing calculator to run\u00a0<em>Doom<\/em>, which\u00a0was a successful venture.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KFDlVgBMomQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Although Equalo&#8217;s achievement may seem humble in comparison to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-93-realistic-doomguy-ai-render\/\">some major <em>Doom<\/em>\u00a0fan projects<\/a>,\u00a0there were unique constraints. His garage could only hold so many potato slices. If he had the space, money, and patience to boil a greater number of potatoes, Equalo would likely have made the game work on the Raspberry Pi Zero. Equalo also had to work under a strict time limit, as the potatoes became less able to generate electricity as they rotted, and apparently the smell almost made Equalo physically ill.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible that someone might repeat this experiment with more resources, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-eternal-samsung-fridge-xlcoud\/\">run <em>Doom\u00a0<\/em>on more devices as a result<\/a>. Bethesda recently worked with a group of overclockers\u00a0to run\u00a0<em>Doom Eternal<\/em>\u00a0at over\u00a0a thousand frames per second. This shows that the creators and publishers behind the\u00a0<em>Doom\u00a0<\/em>franchise are willing to\u00a0help enthusiasts push\u00a0games to their extremes.<\/p>\n<p>Not all changes to the original <em>Doom<\/em>\u00a0come from fans. For example, id Software added <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-patch-widescreen-gyro-aim\/\">brand-new features to current-gen <em>Doom<\/em>\u00a0ports<\/a>\u00a0in September, including support for gyro controls and a new difficulty setting.
