Helmed by Illumination Studios\u00a0&#8211; the team behind the acclaimed\u00a0<em>Despicable Me\u00a0<\/em>trilogy, its\u00a0<em>Minions\u00a0<\/em>spinoff series, and the recent animated remake of\u00a0<em>The Grinch &#8211;\u00a0<\/em><em>Mario\u00a0<\/em>looks all set to make his first big-screen appearance since the unanimously panned\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pitch-meeting-video-makes-fun-super-mario-bros-movie\/\"><em>Super Mario Bros\u00a0<\/em>film that debuted in 1993<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, a huge part of any\u00a0<em>Mario\u00a0<\/em>project is the music, and it seems there&#8217;s already a composer who would love nothing more than to get a crack at Illumination&#8217;s take on the character. That\u00a0musician is none other than Grant Kirkhope, the man behind the music for\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/new-banjo-kazooie-conker-games-xbox-series-x\/\">Banjo-Kazooie<\/a>, Donkey Kong 64,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Mario\u00a0+ Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mario-kart-live-home-circuit-tracks\/\">Video Reveals All Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Tracks<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on\u00a0the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kirkhope claimed that his current goal is to get himself involved in the upcoming Illumination Studio project, with the hopes of composing for the adaptation. Although he claims the goal is one he&#8217;s unsure he&#8217;ll be able to complete, he cites his experience working with Nintendo on\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mario-rabbids-kingdom-battle-best-selling-third-party-game-switch\/\">Mario + Rabbids<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0claiming that above all else, the company will want a\u00a0composer\u00a0who understands the property and can do it justice. &#8220;I know\u00a0<em>Mario <\/em>and\u00a0I know\u00a0Nintendo. I know what they&#8217;re like about protecting their music,&#8221; he states when discussing the subject, making the point that his prior work has shown that he knows &#8220;how to respect\u00a0<em>Mario.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KPihTwWezGE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Kirkhope seems to think that it&#8217;s something of an unlikely goal, with the musician acknowledging that Illumination will likely bring in a Hollywood composer to tackle the film instead. However, it definitely seems like Kirkhope is going to fight to get himself in the running for the position, teasing that he has a few connections that he&#8217;s hoping can get him closer to securing the role. Of course, the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-mario-movie-release-date\/\">Super Mario\u00a0<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-mario-movie-release-date\/\">movie<\/a> is\u00a0currently in the early stages of production, with the composer pointing out that there still isn&#8217;t a director or producer attached to the project.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing as\u00a0Nintendo likes to ensure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/nintendo-dropped-lego-super-mario-6000-times\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">multimedia\u00a0<em>Mario\u00a0<\/em>products<\/a>\u00a0align\u00a0with the quality of the franchise&#8217;s video games, it would definitely make sense to hire somebody who&#8217;s worked with the character in the format before. Regardless of his prior experience with\u00a0<em>Mario\u00a0<\/em>specifically, Grant Kirkhope is also just a legendary composer\u00a0in the gaming scene, having worked on some of Rare&#8217;s most iconic\u00a0releases\u00a0as well as a handful of other exceptional titles.
