The game feels akin to\u00a0<em>Minecraft\u00a0<\/em>fused with the sci-fi film\u00a0<em>The Martian<\/em>, as an astronaut must venture through foreign planets to seek out crafting materials and resources. These tasks\u00a0allow them to complete challenges, construct buildings, and reshape the land.<\/p>\n<p>The game offers plenty for solo explorers, though its co-op feature adds even more depth and enjoyment to the experience.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">15 <\/span>It Lurks Below<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/it-lurks-below.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>This title shares plenty of similarities with <em>Terraria<\/em>, especially with its aesthetics and gameplay. <em>It Lurks Below<\/em> is an action-oriented survival RPG, complete with stats and character classes that will satisfy gamers more familiar with RPGs. The game also has randomly-generated underground levels that hold plenty of enemies, items, and excitement.<\/p>\n<p>The game was released back in 2018 and has had continuous updates and support since its release. There is plenty to keep players occupied, including cooking and farming, quests, crafting potions, holiday events, and of course lots of weapons to collect.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">14 <\/span>Crea<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/crea.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Crea<\/em> draws many comparisons to <em>Terraria<\/em>, though its RPG genre and vibe set it apart in a great light. Not only does the player level up instead of improving their gear, but there are over 80 skills to learn through the game&#8217;s talent system (comparable to a skill tree).<\/p>\n<p>The game has its own history and lore to be learned, named monsters with unique talents to defeat, a robust crafting system to enjoy, and generated worlds and dungeons to explore. This game is great for those who love both RPG elements and <em>Terraria.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">13 <\/span>Alchemage<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/alchemage.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>This Early Access sandbox title is a great little game to relax with at the end of a long day.<em> Alchemage\u00a0<\/em>is undoubtedly a <em>Terraria<\/em> clone, that being a positive aspect, and has many of the gameplay elements players have come to love\u00a0from the game, along with great music, weather, and graphics.<\/p>\n<p>Players find themselves in a mysterious land and must work towards the hope of returning home. Along the way, players can build homes and shelters, explore to their heart&#8217;s content, fight monsters, and play with friends in multiplayer mode.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">12 <\/span>Forager<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/forager-screenshot.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Forager<\/em> has been described as &#8220;<em>Zelda<\/em> meets <em>Stardew Valley<\/em> meets <em>Terraria<\/em>,&#8221; and it&#8217;s a tall order to be compared to such a roster of esteemed titles. Still,\u00a0<em>Forager\u00a0<\/em>manages to be addictive and adorable enough to warrant the attention. Of course, battling is the other core component, raiding dungeons and defeating monsters to further one&#8217;s quest for riches and triumph.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">11 <\/span>Dig or Die<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/dig-or-die.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to pick one genre of game as a favorite, so it&#8217;s always interesting and appealing when games manage to combine genres in great ways. <em>Dig or Die<\/em> is marketed as a Sci-Fi platformer, sandbox game,\u00a0<em>and<\/em> tower defense game, which according to reviews works exceedingly well. Besides its night dangers, tile system, and excessive exploration and mining, <em>Dig or Die<\/em> diverts from <em>Terraria<\/em> in its detail and difficulty.<\/p>\n<p>It becomes a real challenge to ward off the increasingly intelligent and crafty enemies at night who can destroy walls in their path to get to the player and their resources. The game also benefits from fluid movement and controls, unique weapons, and a genuinely fun crafting system that encourages building.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Spelunky<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Spelunky.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>There are many parallels in this delightful mining adventure that\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>fans should be familiar with here. There&#8217;s a surprising amount of &#8220;depth&#8221; to be had for a freeware game; pun not intended.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/spelunky\/\"><em>Spelunky<\/em><\/a>\u00a0stresses more grueling platforming trials and hazards scattered all over the place. Navigating the slew of randomly-generated areas as one tries\u00a0to survive hordes of critters provides plenty of thrills, and is definitely reminiscent of Re-Logic&#8217;s game. Players can even engage in some multiplayer insanity with up to 4 players total.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Don&#8217;t Starve<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/dont-starve-together-game-play.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>This artistic indie by Klei Entertainment shares more than just <em>Terraria&#8217;s<\/em> publisher (505 games); it also shares that same sense of eerieness and urgency as\u00a0much of the time will be spent\u00a0in a hostile land fighting for survival.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dont-starve-together-wish-knew-before-playing\/\">Don&#8217;t Starve<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>pits the player in a dark and dismal foreign world, which must be traversed in order to collect resources, cobble together settlements, and just doing anything necessary to keep going. Team Cherry&#8217;s Metroidvania is a captivating experience on the visual\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>gameplay front.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Growtopia<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Growtopia-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Growtopia\u00a0<\/em>takes a page of the\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>playbook in more ways than one. This delightful sandbox game takes the same free-flowing adventure and crafting elements from that game and makes it even more accessible. Unlike some on our list, this can be played on just about every modern platform imaginable, including mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>This cute little MMO is definitely more on the lax, passive side in terms of the gameplay. Yet, those that appreciate the building and multiplayer aspects of\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>should definitely get some joy out of this colorful game.\u00a0Those who enjoy flexing their\u00a0creative side in games but seek a break from being harassed by giant spiders or zombies may want to give\u00a0<em>Growtopia\u00a0<\/em>a look.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Dragon Quest Builders 2<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/furrow-friends.0.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>This sandbox RPG builder is quite underrated &#8211; thanks in part to its cute visuals, <em>and<\/em>\u00a0being overshadowed by the more popular\u00a0mainline\u00a0<em>DQ\u00a0<\/em>games. Still, judging it on its own merits,\u00a0this sequel to\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/dragon-quest\/\">Dragon Quest<\/a> Builders\u00a0<\/em>is\u00a0impressive with how vast and diverse the experience is. This sequel fleshes out the multiplayer aspects even further too, allowing\u00a0a player to team up with friends and experience this\u00a0majestic sandbox together.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Dig-N-Rig<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Dig-N-Rig.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Many were at least initially drawn to\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>for its colorful retro style that reminds one of late 8-bit or early 16-bit software.\u00a0<em>Dig-N-Rig\u00a0<\/em>invokes this same sort of feeling artistically, but it goes even\u00a0<em>further\u00a0<\/em>back in time with its crude, blocky visuals that resemble early 80s PC software.<\/p>\n<p>This game, crafted by students of DigiPen, similarly stresses mining and resource collection but dilutes things down to a simpler premise\u00a0and mechanics. Players take control of a mining robot, who must lay down conveyor belts and plunder increasingly deep depths to nab resources. These are then converted to more effective tools and other upgrades.\u00a0This software, which combines a building sim with mining and crafting, feels akin to a simpler, but inventive new take on the\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>formula.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Craft The World<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Craft-The-World.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Going by the description of this game&#8217;s own developers Dekovir &#8211;\u00a0<em>Craft the World\u00a0<\/em>takes\u00a0<em>Terraria<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Dungeon Keeper<\/em>,\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Dwarf Fortress<\/em>\u00a0aspects to round out this enjoyable romp. The result is an addictive and dynamic game that&#8217;s part sandbox and part strategy-sim.<\/p>\n<p>While the game focuses more on building and managing one&#8217;s fortresses rather than adventuring, there&#8217;s definitely a similar vibe to Re-Logic&#8217;s game when it comes to staving off attacks. It reminds one of fending off super-aggressive mobs in\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>during those hostile nights at the home base.\u00a0Those who like to show off their indestructible\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>fortresses while taking out\u00a0monster hordes should definitely give this a look.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Steamworld Dig 2<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/steamworld-dig-2-screen-01-ps4-us-26sep17.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Flipping things somewhat on their head here,\u00a0<em>Steamworld Dig\u00a0<\/em>&#8211; and especially its deeper sequel &#8211; emulates the exploration, mining, and combat\u00a0traits of\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>rather than building. This mining hero will begin humbly with a little more than a pickaxe. Yet, Dorothy will increasingly juice herself up with stronger, more efficient tools and abilities like a bomb launcher. She&#8217;ll also be facing off against some thrilling bosses\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>style.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Minecraft<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Minecraft-Triliton-Shaders.jpeg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>It&#8217;s tough to discuss\u00a0<em>Terraria\u00a0<\/em>without mentioning what&#8217;s largely its 3D counterpart,\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em>. Seriously, outside the added 3rd dimension, these two gems are extremely similar, and we mean this in the best way possible.
