In just a few weeks, people around the world will finally be able to get their hands on the Xbox Series X. In recent months, a large amount of promotional deals have surfaced advertising the Xbox Series X, including brand deals with other companies. One of the most recent is a giveaway contest in association with KFC.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has partnered with another fast food brand in order to promote the release of the Xbox Series X. Back in early September, Microsoft partnered with Taco Bell to give customers a chance to win a free Xbox Series X. Now, it seems KFC will now be running a similar contest that gives people a chance to win a free Xbox Series X and a special, limited-edition prize as well.
KFC Gaming and Microsoft have devised a contest that allows customers the opportunity to win an Xbox Series X and a custom, KFC-themed Xbox Series X controller. In order to enter for a chance to win, all people have to do is download the KFC app, enter the contest via email, purchase a meal box at a participating KFC location, and scan the barcode or enter a promotional code printed on the box. Users can also order a meal box via the KFC app and receive a code through the app itself.
This isn’t the first time that KFC has promoted itself using gaming-related content. In the past, the company released a parody trailer for a fake next-gen console to rival the Xbox Series X and the PS5. In addition, the company even developed a fully playable KFC-themed dating simulator starring Colonel Sanders.
In any case, it will be interesting to see what will come out of this contest. It isn’t too often that big brands like KFC offer themed controllers like the one being given away through this contest. In a way, this controller is somewhat similar to the Star Wars-themed Xbox One controllers, but that was simply concept art and not made into official products.
Microsoft is not the only company using fast food chains to promote the release of its next-generation gaming hardware. Burger King partnered with Sony in order to do a PS5 giveaway, and it will be interesting to see if any other brand steps up to promote either console around their release next month.
The Xbox Series X is set to launch on November 10, 2020.
