Dirt 5 Confirmed as PS5 Launch Title, Special Features Detailed

A new game can now be officially added to the list of PS5 launch titles, because it has been confirmed that the next entry in Codemasters’ off-road racing series, Dirt 5, will be available on Sony’s next console when it debuts next month.

The game will be coming to PC and current-gen consoles on November 6, and last month it was confirmed that Dirt 5 will be a launch title for the Xbox Series X on November 10. It’s been widely assumed in the leadup to the next generation that the game will also launch alongside the PS5, but Codemasters has refrained from setting the date for the game’s release on the console. Today, though, the publisher finally made it official, announcing on the official Dirt Twitter page that physical and digital copies of the PS5 version will be out on November 12.

In the process, Codemasters gave a brief rundown of the next-gen features the PS5 version will boast. The game will see a performance upgrade with faster load times and support for 4K resolution and a 120fps framerate like the Xbox Series X version, but the most unique feature will of course be the incorporation of the PS5 DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. How Dirt 5 utilize these wasn’t specified, but it seems safe to assume that they will likely be used to convey the sensation of driving on gravel, sand, ice, and more through the controller.

Furthermore, it was confirmed that the game’s online multiplayer will support cross-gen play between PS4 and PS5 players. PS4 players will also be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free, though Codemasters has recently stated that Dirt 5 won’t include cross-save support on PlayStation consoles.

Next-gen upgrades aside, Dirt 5 is shaping to be a hefty racer. In addition to a wide selection of off-road vehicles, 70+ routes set all across the globe, and support for local and online multiplayer, players will also be treated to a beefed-up career mode featuring voice actors Troy Baker and Nolan North, as well as Dirt 5‘s new Playground mode which will let players create and share custom arenas.

Now that Dirt 5 has been confirmed for the PS5’s launch, the console will have another racer to bolster its debut alongside Sony’s more action-oriented Destruction AllStars. Add to that Gran Turismo 7, which is in development for the console, and the PS5 is already shaping up nicely for fans of racing games.

Dirt 5 will launch on November 6 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, followed by Xbox Series X and PS5 releases on November 10 and November 12, respectively. A Stadia version is also slated to come out in 2021.
