New PlayStation Store Site is Live | Game Rant

After announcing a little over a week ago that substantial changes would be made to the online PlayStation Store, Sony has finally unveiled the revamped website to house the new PlayStation Store, less than a month away from the release of the PS5. This new website contains numerous changes made to the PlayStation Store as well as exciting new features relating to the upcoming release of the PS5.

Sony announced that big changes would be made to the PlayStation Store starting in October. One of the biggest changes being that any and all PS3, PSP and Vita games would no longer be purchasable on the website itself. However, the content will still be available to purchase on the respective platforms, just not through PlayStation’s online store via the website.

In any case, the revamped PlayStation Store site launched earlier today and the layout of the site is quite different visually from the previous iteration of the website. The UI aesthetic is much cleaner and features various shades of orange and grey, possibly in an attempt to match the current design of the PS5’s UI. Despite the changes made to the UI, the updated PlayStation Store will no longer feature other components that were included in the previous iteration of the website.

In addition to the lack of PS3, PSP, and PS Vita support, the website is also doing away with the wishlist feature. Not to mention that applications, avatars, and background themes will no longer be available to purchase on the online store. Users will have to rely on the built in PlayStation store app on whichever console the user wants to purchase the content for.

However, some concerns have begun to arise from certain users after the website launch. Reportedly, certain features that were not otherwise listed are not currently available at launch, such as the ability to filter listings or details regarding game file sizes. Hopefully, these missing features are just an oversight on the website developer’s part and will be amended.

It’s amazing how many updates have been made to not just the website, but to various other facets of Sony’s products. The company gave the PS4 a recent software update that likely coincides with certain development features of the PS5, such as backward compatibility and support between both console generations. It will be exciting to see what other surprises Sony will have in store for its users before the PS5 officially launches next month.

The PS5 is set to launch on November 12th, 2020.
