Monster Hunter Rise Players Can Pet Their Palamute, Teach it Tricks

Capcom is starting off strong when it comes to getting players excited for Monster Hunter Rise, the Switch exclusive installment looking to replace Monster Hunter: World next year. This includes giving fans a look at the new Monster Hunter companion, the Palamute, and showing off some of the many ways that players can interact with the giant, ridable dogs.

Shared through Capcom’s official social media accounts, the recent look at the character interactions in Monster Hunter Rise have quickly begun going viral. As with previous Monster Hunter titles, and especially with new quality of life features in the transition from World to Iceborne, the developer understands the importance of the smallest details that make players happy.

The new feature that Capcom recently showed off is the ability to pet the Palamute, as well as teaching it tricks like giving the player its paw and waiting for a treat that’s been placed in it’s nose. From the way that these interactions are displayed in the short clip that Capcom shared online, it appears that these are emotes available when interacting with the Palamute in either Monster Hunter Rise‘s Kamura Village or the game’s various campsites. This may be implemented similarly to how interacting with the poogie in previous games have worked, or it could be more area specific, like how players can pet and play with their Palico in Iceborne while in the Seliana gathering hub.

Considering everything that the Palamute is capable of in the game, and how helpful it will be, it makes sense for Capcom to be looking to lead players to make a deeper connection with their animal companions. Especially for solo players, these companions will be a major part of the gameplay, both when grinding for gear, and when progressing through the game’s storyline. It’s often these smaller details like being allowed to pet and play with something like the Palamute that can make taking down Monster Hunter Rise‘s new monsters all the more rewarding for those that care about the emotional attachment.

Naturally, this type of feature is hugely popular online, with entire twitter accounts dedicated to whether or not certain video games will let players pet certain animals. In that case it’s little surprise that the new feature is quickly getting players excited for everything coming to Monster Hunter Rise. Hopefully Capcom’s focus on these tiny details and quality of life improvements will make this new endeavor as exciting to play as World has been since it launched.

Monster Hunter Rise is set to release on March 26th, 2021 exclusively for the Switch.
