Beyond Light’s reimagining of Destiny 2 may be a few weeks out, but eager players have already started to solve some of Bungie’s new secrets. Though the game is not available until November 10, collector’s editions are arriving early — and coming with a special puzzle for clever Destiny 2 players to decipher.
The light-up Splinter of Darkness from Destiny 2: Beyond Light’s collector’s edition is where the puzzle began, as the item is a bit more than just a light-up replica. The model features an extra button called “code,” and when pressed the blue lights on the Splinter of Darkness begin to flash in a seemingly random pattern. The pattern is not random, however, as the blue lights are actually flashing morse code.
While one dedicated YouTuber is making a video series on Destiny 2’s vaulted content, other players are looking to the future and helping to solve this morse code mystery. Twitter user Melmsie does not know morse code himself, but the Destiny 2 player received a collector’s edition and wisely posted a video of the object to allow other players to solve this morse code puzzle. The secrets do not end there, however, as the logbook, letter, and post card that can be found in the collector’s edition also feature some mysteries of their own.
While most of the writing on these items pertains to Beyond Light’s story, providing bits of backstory to build up to players’ confrontation with new villain Eramis, some images feature extra bits of morse code. Destiny 2 fans have wasted no time deciphering these coded messages, all of which seem to reward players with exclusive emblems that can be acquired upon the game’s release. While codes are still being found, any players seem to be able to use the ones that are already discovered on Bungie’s website. They can be found below.
Emblem 1: RA9XPH6KJ
Emblem 2: JYNJAAY7D
Emblem 3: 7LVGTKT7J
The puzzles are still being solved and more codes will likely be found, so hopefully the newer finds are accessible to all players as well. This is far from the only time developers have tasked players with doing outside work to acquire in-game rewards, as the Call of Duty series has done this often as of late. Aside from the massive Black Ops Cold War easter egg hunt, a Modern Warfare calling card easter egg was recently discovered via the trailer for Haunting of Verdansk. Perhaps the best comparison to Destiny 2’s puzzle is God of War 2018’s collector’s edition, though, as it also featured a puzzle on one of its items that provided all players with an in-game reward.
With Destiny 2 set to change forever in just a few weeks, it is nice to see Bungie rewarding dedicated fans with some extra items ahead of Beyond Light’s release. While the three-week wait will still be grueling for hardcore Guardians, puzzle solving and emblem redeeming should kill at least some time.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light releases November 10, 2020 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. The Xbox Series X and PS5 versions will launch on December 8.
