Although not many games. can get away with a standalone subscription model at this point, World of Warcraft still manages to get tons of gamers to shell out roughly $14 per month to remain active in Azeroth. The nearly two decade old Blizzard MMO has stuck with the subscription model since it launched and, although the playerbase has fluctuated from year to year, it has remained a profitable and sustainable model.
To help encourage players to commit to longer stints in the game, Blizzard has started offering some aesthetic rewards to players who sign up for six months of game time at once. These rewards are fairly new to the game, but offer a fun incentive for players to gain some rewards for spending extra cash without messing with any of the game’s delicate class balance. The latest reward is an interesting choice and has World of Warcraft fans on social media debating the choice.
The Sprite Darter’s Wings is a full transmog set available with the purchase of a 6-month subscription. It offers a full costume that players can opt to wear all together for the full effect or just in pieces as part of a unique creation of their own. The wings in particular are likely to be a popular choice, so expect to see a whole lot of those flapping around all of the game’s capital cities and other popular zones.
In order to obtain the full transmog set players just need to purchase six additional months of game time from Blizzard or the game’s shop. Since many players are likely preparing to play put in a handful of months with the game when the Shadowlands expansion launches later this year, it seems likely that a lot of the community is willing to commit to half a year of gameplay at this point anyway.
“Enchant your friends and beguile your foes with this eight-piece transmogrification set inspired by the fey dragons of Azeroth. This appearance features cosmetic wings and a mesmerizing mask that make you a sprite to behold and will take the breath away from friend, foe, and dragonkin alike.
And for a limited time*, you can get this transmog set at no additional charge with the purchase of a 6-month Subscription! Sprite Darter’s Wings are also available as a separate purchase and can be gifted to friends.”
Unfortunately, there is not other way to earn this particular transmog set in the game. That means players who want to rock the Sprite Darter’s Wings will have to make this 6-month subscription purchase if they want to ensure they have this transmog in their wardrobe. The purchase has to be made by December 13 to gain the reward.
Keep in mind that this transmog set will be available immediately after purchase and that every character on the account will have access to the new look. In order to apply a transmog, players need to visit a Transmogrifier somewhere in the game. The easiest place to find one is in any capital city (the local guards can point players in the right direction), but some players also have mounts or other perks that bring the transmog feature out into other parts of Azeroth.
Be sure to check back in the coming weeks as more details about Shadowlands emerge. Until then, For the Horde!
World of Warcraft is available now for PC. At this point, World of Warcraft Shadowlands is expected at some point in late 2020 for PC.
