Legends, the multiplayer component to Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima, has apparently had a wildly successful launch. According to a recent blog post from Sucker Punch, over two million matches were played in the first weekend of the mode’s availability. While Ghost of Tsushima: Legends was developed parallel to the main game, this success suggests it will continue getting content, and that apparently includes weekly challenges.
There will be two new weekly challenges available every Friday at 8:00 p.m. PT, according to Sucker Punch’s blog post, including a two-player Story mission and a four-player Survival mission. These missions will all be set to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends‘ Nightmare difficulty, have specific modifiers, and offer players an opportunity to rank on a leaderboard – one available for each mission.
The challenges will be “very difficult” and put each team that tries them to the test, Sucker Punch says, but Legends players can earn max-level gear by completing bonus objectives in each mission. Collecting this gear is one way the developer recommends players prepare for the three-chapter “The Tale of Iyo” raid that begins October 30. That raid requires players compile their own teams of four, as matchmaking is not supported, and it is recommended all gear be at KI level 100.
While the lack of matchmaking in the upcoming raid may be limiting to some players, it should encourage those who also have friends playing Ghost of Tsushima to shore up their abilities and gear by playing through weekly challenges. There are four distinct classes in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and having strong teams that can utilize all of the skills they bring to the table is likely the best way to approach the challenges Sucker Punch is providing.
Ghost of Tsushima has been a successful game to close out the PS4 era, so it seems fair to assume most players will have other friends to call upon. One example of its popularity is the fact that Good Smile Company recently unveiled early Ghost of Tsushima figure designs alongside Cyberpunk 2077, Monster Hunter World, and more.
Its popularity also bodes well for the future, not just in terms of content like weekly challenges in Legends. A recent Sucker Punch job listing suggests a Ghost of Tsushima sequel or DLC expansion may already be in the works, as the developers are seeking a narrative writer with the desire and knowledge to write about feudal Japan.
Ghost of Tsushima is available now on PS4.
