The Medium lets you inhabit the real world and the spirit world.
One of the neat mechanics in Bloober Team’s upcoming horror adventure The Medium is how it takes place in two versions of the same world at the same moment.
The developer talked before about how the power of Xbox Series X/S is what enables the game to essentially render two versions of the world in real time, but not much has been revealed about how the mechanic itself works in game and what each of the realms offers that the other does not.
In a new video, Bloober gets into how dual reality works. For starters, the developer pointed out that though certain moments will allow players to experience both realities simultaneously, about two-thirds of the game will be spent in on reality.
The protagonist’s powers work in one world, but what you do in one will be reflected in the other. That in turn opens up previously inaccessible paths and reveals more of the game’s story. The size of each world’s window also varies from moment to moment, depending on how much of the screen the developer decides we need to see.
The Medium is coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S on December 10.
