Arkham Origins Voice Actor Comments on Fellow Joker Actor

The first Suicide Squad movie from 2016 released to fairly negative critical reviews for a number of reasons, often attributed to a messy production plagued by rewrites, reshoots, and a major refocus after initial trailers dropped. Among these issues, some viewers have also pointed at some direction and acting choices made by some of the people within the production, with Jared Leto’s appearance commented on by a fellow Joker actor in a recent livestream.

Mostly focusing on recently revealed promotional images of Tom Holland as Uncharted‘s Nathan Drake in the upcoming film, Joker voice actor Troy Baker made a passing remark on previous movie adaptations. The livestream, aired on the YouTube channel Relator – Troy Baker, eventually moved onto the topic of previous Batman movies and both the initial and final thoughts on some notable performances in these films.

Initially commenting on previous Batman actors, Baker mentions how some of these performers, like Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer, were surprisingly good, something that many fans had doubted before the movies released. However, as he and his co-host went down the list, the subject of Jared Leto’s portrayal of Joker from Suicide Squad, which the Baker claims, “I was right about Jared Leto. Jared Leto was not a good Joker.”

Baker’s comments shouldn’t be taken out of context, however, as the fellow Joker actor does have a familiarity with the character and is only commenting on Leto’s portrayal within the context of the single film. Granted, considering that Jared Leto will be returning for Justice League, it would seem that Warner Bros. doesn’t exactly agree with this assessment of the actor’s performance in Suicide Squad. So, while there are a number of viewers and DC fans who would agree with Baker’s assertion on the 2016 version of The Joker, the studio heads still apparently have faith in Leto’s star power.

Looking at the general response of Leto’s portrayal of the iconic Batman villain, the upcoming Snyder Cut may be the best chance for the actor to redeem his portrayal of The Joker in Justice League. However, with the right direction, it shouldn’t be out of the question for the Oscar winning actor to give a better performance than the controversial one from Suicide Squad. With any luck, everyone involved in Justice League‘s production will be better handled than Suicide Squad.
