Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the biggest games to release this year, having helped many deal with the pandemic. Ever since its release last March, AC:NH continues to captivate players from all sorts of backgrounds, including celebrities, and now, politicians.
Much of the appeal of the game can be attributed to its relaxing and charming gameplay, but the wide-assortment of villagers and special characters also enhanced the overall experience of players as they build their villages from scratch. Over the months since Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ release, Nintendo introduced several characters from previous games that were not initially added to the game such as Luna, Reese, Cyrus, and many more. Now, here are some characters that still haven’t made an appearance in New Horizons that Nintendo should introduce in future updates.
Veteran Animal Crossing fans would know that some villagers in the game have foreshadowed the likely appearance of special characters when talking to them at random. For example, that cranky art lover Fang foreshadowed in a conversation with the player the importance of having art on the island. Interestingly enough, Nintendo introduced the feature into the game with the arrival of the sketchy art dealer Redd, who will visit the island randomly and sell both fake and genuine art pieces to the player.
Now, some players discovered an interesting conversation with the ostrich villager Gladys, who referenced Dr. Shrunk when talking about starting a book club. To the uninitiated, Dr. Shrunk is a recurring special character in the franchise who has appeared in every single game since Wild World with the exception of New Horizons. Throughout the series, Dr. Shrunk gave the player the ability to express their emotions through the use of emoticons in the game. Of course, even without Dr. Shrunk, emoticons were already introduced in New Horizons with villagers teaching the player to express different reactions. Now, if Nintendo is really planning to return Dr. Shrunk in New Horizons, it would be interesting to see what his role in the game will be.
Another special character that has been referenced by other villagers numerous times is Brewster who works in the cafe called The Roost in several Animal Crossing games. Of course, his introduction in the game would probably mean that his cafe will also be available in New Horizons, which is definitely an exciting prospect given that players would have a new area to hang out with their neighbors. Although Nintendo still hasn’t officially announced the return of Brewster, several dataminers discovered evidence that Brewster is likely to appear in the future, given that various files in the game suggest the return of the character.
Apart from these unannounced characters, Nintendo has already laid out its plans for the return of other special villagers in future updates. According to Nintendo, Franklin, who is the turkey villager that serves as the host of the Harvest Festival will arrive in the game alongside the November update. Moreover, the recent trailer for the upcoming update also confirmed the reindeer villager called Jingle, who will return to the game the same day as Franklin.
As of the moment, it is unclear when Nintendo plans to re-introduce the other special characters that have been foreshadowed by some villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, it is likely that more characters will make a return in New Horizons with the introduction of several events such as Halloween and Christmas, and the arrival of Spring next year.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
