Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra DLC Makes Interesting Changes to Jynx

The second DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield is finally here, bringing plenty of returning Pokemon to the games as well as several new ones. While most of the returning Pokemon are pretty much the same as always, one in particular has an interesting change. It looks like Jynx appears in Sword and Shield and blows kisses to the player, but this may have more implications than trainers realize.

Now that The Crown Tundra is out, players have access to almost 900 different Pokemon to capture. Returning Pokemon include favorites such as the fossils, dozens of legendaries, and classic staples such as Zubat and Dragonite. Included in this large list is Jynx, the Psychic- and Ice-Type Pokemon who appears very human. Jynx has been the source of controversy before, with creators originally making her skin black and eventually changing it to purple. Gengar had a similar change as well, but Jynx was always the bigger controversial spotlight of the two.

It seems that, in addition to adding Galarian forms of many Pokemon, Jynx also gets a new feature. If the trainer stops beside her and whistles at her, Jynx will turn and blow a kiss at the player and then chase them. While this would likely seem cute and fun coming from nearly any other Pokemon, it carries some added controversy coming from Jynx. The trainer essentially whistles at a female humanlike Pokemon who then blows them a kiss in return. If the kiss could be triggered by any other action, it would probably be overlooked.

Of course, this could just be players looking too much into a fun mechanic that the developers wanted to include. There are plenty of other new features in the game, such as the main Crown Tundra Pokemon’s special mechanic. This could be a case of players thinking too much about something simply because Jynx was controversial in the past.

Aside from this one feature, there is plenty for players to discover and explore in the wintry region. The Dynamax Dens can now be fully investigated, leading to a fun multiplayer adventure where trainers can catch many of the legendary Pokemon. There is also the Galarian Star Tournament, where players can team up with other Sword and Shield characters in order to battle their way to the top.

Although this new content was just released, players are always looking toward the future. Considering the long and successful run that Pokemon has had so far, it has built a fanbase to keep it going for years. Whether it is a rumored third Sword and Shield DLC, a remake of Diamond and Pearl, or simply the next entry into the franchise, players are sure to line up and get it as soon as it releases.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available on Nintendo Switch.
