Stranger Things season 4 is in the midst of production following a temporary setback brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, photos from the set of the Netflix series reveal a new look at the return of Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, and Maya Hawke.
In the first season of Stranger Things, Keery’s Steve Harrington took on the role of the series bully, particularly towards Jonathan Byers and his girlfriend Nancy Wheeler on account of suspecting the two of being in a relationship. However, Harrington proves himself to be heroic towards the end of the season and reconciles with Wheeler before forming an unlikely friendship with Matarazzo’s Dustin Henderson. The second and third seasons of the series paired the two characters together for most of the story, resulting in the duo becoming a fan-favorite team.
Photos from Just Jared confirm Harrington and Henderson will still be working together in the fourth season of Stranger Things. In the collection of images, Keery and Matarazzo are joined by Sink and Hawke, who respectively portray Max Mayfield and Robin Buckley, as they film a scene at a video store in Atlanta, Georgia. The previous season of the series concluded with Harrington applying for a job at the Family Video store. An actress portraying an unknown character also appears in the photos, and she appears to have caught the attention of Harrington.
The fourth season of Stranger Things is expected to explore beyond the boundaries of Hawkins, Indiana, the primary setting of the series thus far, partly because of Winona Ryder’s Joyce Byers deciding to move away with her two sons and Eleven after the Battle of Starcourt Mall in the season 3. Furthermore, David Harbour’s Jim Hopper is being held prisoner in a USSR facility after sacrificing himself to destroy a Soviet lab hidden underneath the town mall. At this time, the Duffer Brothers plan to continue the Stranger Things story after season 4, though Netflix has not officially renewed the series.
Nonetheless, Stranger Things appears to be safe for the moment as one of Netflix’s biggest hits. The same could not be said for projects such as GLOW or the developing Magic Order series, both of which were pulled by the streamer in part due to additional production costs required to film safely during the pandemic.
Although the wait for Stranger Things may be longer than expected, fans of Millie Bobby Brown, who portrays Eleven on the series, can see the actress in Netflix’s Enola Holmes. Based on the book by Nancy Springer, the film features Brown as the teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes.
Stranger Things is now available on Netflix.
