Halloween is a favorite holiday for many all around the world. This may be due to the various horrors allowed to stalk the night or even just the plethora of treats available for all to snack on throughout the night. As more video games became more connected to real world times and dates, holiday based events also became more common with the aforementioned additions also being available virtually.
With in-game Halloween events, there are often plenty of event-exclusive items available to help players stay spooky all year long. This means that many gamers look forward to these events more than any other holiday themed event throughout the year.
As the spookiest holiday of the year draws closer and closer, there is less time for players to reap the rewards and candy provided by these events. Many of these are also close to players’ hearts and are enjoyed whether or not there are rewards offered. The following are some of the more well beloved Halloween events happening this year.
Halloween has been an event in the Animal Crossing series since the GameCube title. The only game to lack the spooky holiday was Animal Crossing: Wild World for the Nintendo DS. The event often comes with candy, costumes, tricks, and the Czar of Halloween, Jack. Jack is a mysterious character of unknown species with a jack o’ lantern on his head.
As more and more games have been released for Animal Crossing, the Halloween events have also changed. They always however land on the real world date of Halloween, October 31st. Players can often get the Creepy furniture series or the Spooky furniture series.
In the most recent Animal Crossing game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can give Jack candy in exchange for rewards on Halloween. Players additionally have access to body pain and special eye colors to make for more creative costumes during the month of October. More costumes and special DIY recipes are also available for this game as well as the ability to grow pumpkins on players’ islands.
Many gamers are still out hunting for Pokemon in Pokemon GO in 2020. As Pokemon GO has many different events that come up often, it makes sense for the AR game to have an event for Halloween. During Pokemon GO‘s Halloween events, the spawn rates for various ghost-type Pokemon are increased. Players can also find various Pokemon wearing Halloween costumes themed around other spooky Pokemon.
This year, players can work toward getting Mega Gengar Energy in order to mega evolve Gengar into Mega Gengar. Additionally, players will be able to finally find Galarian Yamask in the wild, as well as through special research tasks.
Out of any game genre, MMORPGs often put the most forward when it comes to Halloween events.
