PUBG Supports 60 FPS on Next-Gen Consoles | Game Rant

The popular battle royale PUBG will be receiving a new update that lets the game run at 60 frames-per-second on next-generation consoles, as well as a few current ones. While previous updates have added more bots or new game modes for PUBG, this one focuses on visual performance. The developer’s console team revealed more information concerning the console update, as well as its plans for new systems.

The PUBG console team announced that PUBG will be backwards compatible with the new Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5 when they release this November. On top of that, the game will be able to run at 60 FPS on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 through the Framerate Priority option, which will also be available for The Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. The Framerate Priority option will release to PUBG’s live servers for Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro with the 9.1 update for consoles on October 29.

The update will extend to the new consoles once they’re released for purchase. The game’s Xbox Series X version will leverage the game builds from both the Xbox One X and Xbox One S for their next-gen counterparts. Sadly, only the Xbox Series X will be supporting 60 FPS via the Framerate Priority option. The Xbox Series S version will be running at 30 FPS, just like the Xbox One S version will. The PlayStation 5 will be using the PS4 Pro’s game build.

However, the developer added that PUBG will support cross-platform play, cross-progression, and cross-generation multiplayer on all available platforms. Console players will be able to transfer their accounts onto new consoles free of charge and continue where they left off with their progress and acquired cosmetics safely intact. Not only that, players will be able to team up with each other regardless of their console generation and play in the game’s multiplayer mode as well. However, the team didn’t say if the cross-platform play also extended to PC players.

After “rigorous testing,” the developers are very confident that the game will not only run at 60 FPS on next-generation consoles, but will perform smoothly with faster load times and as few frame rate drops as possible. The team wraps up the news by sharing its enthusiasm and excitement for console players to see PUBG’s new changes firsthand.

Players will be able to see for themselves if PUBG’s new 60 FPS mode performs as smoothly as the console team expects it to this October 29th.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One with versions for the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X on November 10th and the PS5 on November 12th.
