There comes a time every Call of Duty game when players asks about its end. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is reaching the end of its domination when Black Ops Cold War releases next month and becomes the new focus of the franchise. Still, there are plenty of players that feel loyalty to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and are not planning on making the jump to Cold War. Some of these players are asking for certain playlists to become permanent in the hopes that the game will live on.
Almost every year, the same thing happens. The new Call of Duty releases and the older one starts to dwindle until only a few thousand players log in. One Reddit user is hoping to slow down the decline of Modern Warfare by asking that two of the most popular playlists, Shipment and Shoot House 24/7, remain permanent rather than rotate out. Shipment is a legendary Call of Duty map that goes back to the original Modern Warfare, and Shoot House offers just as much adrenaline action.
With many players running around getting pumpkin heads in The Haunting of Verdansk Halloween event, others are worried about the future of their game. The cycle of Call of Duty can be cruel to those who truly love one of the games in the franchise. Every player will defend why their favorite game is the best, but ultimately each one is replaced by a new game and the majority of players move on.
The Season 6 update brought a new map to Modern Warfare with Mialstor Tank Factory. So even with a brand-new game coming out soon, this one is still getting plenty of updates with new content. While Modern Warfare may get another large update or two, it is unlikely that the support continues for another entire year.
The players requesting permanent playlists aren’t even asking for new updates to be released. Adding scarecrows to Modern Warfare multiplayer matches is a fun and fresh look for games, showing that even older maps can be updated in different ways. Rather than something new, these players are only asking that two of the most popular maps in the game don’t rotate out but rather become fixed playlists.
In the middle of all of this is the discussion of servers for long-term life of the game. The recent viral video of a slow Modern Warfare nuke is a perfect example of how much the game servers have to deal with and how they can sometimes stutter under the stress. Hopefully, Once Cold War releases and the majority of the world moves on, the players that remain will have enough of a game to continue playing for another few years.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
