One of the hottest shows of 2019 was The Mandalorian on Disney+, and on October 30, it will return for its highly-anticipated second season. To celebrate, Microsoft has revealed a Mandalorian Xbox controller based on the TV show, and now some new images have been revealed, giving fans a closer look at the hardware. And as it turns out, the controller has even more Mandalorian references than previously believed.
Microsoft’s initial reveal of the Mandalorian Xbox controller only included images of the front of the device, showing an aesthetic that seems to match Mando’s armor and having symbols that reference The Mandalorian TV show. Now a new image has shown that the popular “Baby Yoda” character, officially known as “The Child,” is on the Xbox Mandalorian controller as well, found on the back of the device.
Anyone that wants to get their hands on the Xbox Mandalorian controller should note that it will set them back quite a bit. Whereas most Xbox One controllers cost around $59.99, the Xbox Mandalorian controller retails for a staggering $169.99. On the bright side, it does come with a rechargeable battery and a Mandalorian-themed stand with which to do so, but even so, the Xbox Mandalorian controller price may be a little too steep for most players.
Some may have been more tempted to purchase the Xbox Mandalorian controller if it was an Xbox Series X controller instead of Xbox One. While it’s true that the Xbox Series X controller is very similar to the Xbox One controller, the Series X controller does have some improvements. For example, the Xbox Series X controller is slightly smaller than the Xbox One controller, and it has a dedicated Share button to make it easier for players to take screenshots and record game clips.
While some Xbox owners may have preferred the Xbox Mandalorian controller to be of the Xbox Series X variety, it should be noted that Microsoft’s new console is compatible with Xbox One controllers. Xbox Series X owners can use any of their existing Xbox One controllers to play Xbox Series X game with no issue, which is in stark contrast to PS5 games, which require players use the new DualSense controllers.
Regardless, it’s possible that this Mandalorian Xbox controller could very well be one of the last specially-themed Xbox One controllers released. With the Xbox Series X November 10 launch date right around the corner, it seems like Microsoft may start releasing themed, limited edition versions of its next-generation hardware instead.
