League of Legends Patch 10.22: K/DA and the Biggest Changes

With the League of Legends Worlds 2020 Championship ending in less than a week and Season 10 wrapping up soon as well, players across the world have had an exciting past couple of months. But before the curtain closes in every region, Riot is making one more set of changes on October 28th with Patch 10.22.

Most notably, the patch has League’s virtual K-pop group K/DA finally returning alongside the new champion Seraphine. However, there are also nerfs for Karthus, Lulu, Samira, and Zed to weaken their performance in solo queue. In contrast, seven champions including Amumu, Annie, Brand, Leblanc, Nasus, Sejuani, and Xayah are getting buffs ranging from better numbers to changing their playstyle.

The champions who are changing the most with their buffs are League of Legends’ 2 fire mages: Annie and Brand. Annie’s E now grants a shield instead of damage reduction and can also be cast on allied champions to give them the shield and speed boost. Moving on, Brand’s E automatically spreads to surrounding enemies now without requiring the original target to be burning from his passive. Furthermore, Brand can now bounce his R off himself if there are no valid targets which further extends his devastating AOE damage in teamfights.

Meanwhile, other champions received quality-of-life improvements to their key abilities. Ashe’s W now fires additional arrows with each rank which helps to apply her passive slow to multiple enemies during skirmishes and teamfights. Galio’s E will always dash forward a minimum distance ensuring any close range engages aren’t blocked by enemy frontliners. Finally, Amumu’s R is now classified as a stun meaning it can interrupt champions with channeled abilities like Fiddlesticks.

On the other hand, Karthus’ Q base damage is getting nerfed to weaken his ability to clear waves or jungle camps much faster than any competition. While Lulu is one of the best supports, a recent resurgence in top lane has resulted in her Q losing base damage at later ranks. Samira has previously been nerfed, but it’s her base stats which are being cut this time due to her kit’s potential. Finally, Zed’s E does will do less base damage later on which forces him to hit all his shuriken or get closer to execute key targets.

Although the Worlds 2020 finals between DAMWON and Suning won’t be played on Patch 10.22, players who main some of these champions will definitely feel the effects for better or worse leading up to the end of the season on November 10th. In the meantime, everyone can pick up the new K/DA skins on October 29th and get a brief preview tomorrow of the group’s expected performance on October 31st.
