Hades: How to Beat Megaera | Game Rant

As players try to escape the Underworld in Hades, they’ll come across all sorts of enemies. Some of these are disposed of with relative ease, while others can cause a bit more trouble, but by far the most deadly thing in the game are the bosses. At the end of each of the four regions, Zagreus must go toe to toe with a powerful adversary, the first of which being the Fury Megaera who guards the exit of Tartarus.

While playing through Hades, players will die a lot. Unlike other games, that’s simply part of the formula here, as the next time players make their daring escape attempt they’ll be slightly better equipped for the ordeal. With that in mind, the first few times players face Megaera it’s likely that things won’t go well, but these tips can help players beat her sooner.

Technically speaking, she can be beat on the first run, though this is unlikely since most players are still getting a grip on Hades’ control scheme. To put things into perspective, though, she’s the weakest of all the bosses in the game, so eventually players should be able to handle her with relative ease.

Megaera has four different attacks that players need to keep track of, but these are mostly easy to dodge once players figure them out. The first attack is a dash which she telegraphs by leaning forward and spreading her wings. This can be avoided simply by dodging to the left or right once she starts to move, and if players have a dash boon from a god they’ll get a bit of free damage as well. If players get too close to Meg, she’ll do a wide, AoE attack centered on her, so it’s best to keep distance when this move comes out.

Occasionally, Megaera will shield herself from damage and shoot out a barrage of energy projectiles. Individually these don’t do a ton of damage but players should still be careful. This attack is easier to dodge if Zagreus is far away from the Fury, as the projectiles spread out with distance. Finally, Meg will summon a pattern of four AoEs around Zagreus, requiring the player to dodge out of the way. This is easiest with two dashes, but if players stay near Megaera it can be done with just one. Hades beginners may struggle with this at first, but practice makes perfect.

She also summons minions to fight alongside her, but these can safely be ignored for the most part. Killing them will only cause more to spawn, so it’s best to focus down Meg, only targeting the minions to cull their numbers if things are getting overwhelming. The key to beating Megaera lies in understanding her attacks and timing dodges right, and once the player can do this, she’ll be a piece of cake on future runs.

Hades is available now on PC and Switch.
