As Bungie prepares to revamp Destiny 2 with a number of activities and locations being vaulted, some of the returning content from the first game is starting to capture fan attention. One of the brighter spots of Destiny: The Dark Below expansion, a strike titled The Will of Crota, appears to be coming back in the upcoming Destiny 2: Beyond Light expansion.
Shown momentarily in the recent Destiny 2 ViDoc for Beyond Light, players have been given a slight glimpse of the return of The Will of Crota strike and how it will be changing in its newest iteration. The biggest change, its new name, now has players on Reddit questioning exactly how much will be changed with the activity and the canon fate of the original strike boss Omnigul.
Due in part to the fact that older activities and raids from earlier expansions of Destiny and Destiny 2 have been established as canon, the character of Omnigul as she appears in the lore can’t exist in the Beyond Light, because she is dead. However, to address this issue with the new version of The Will of Crota, players have noticed that Bungie has changed the name of the strike to The Disgraced. In addition to a new name for the strike itself, there appears to be a new wizard causing trouble in the Cosmodrome named Navota, who seems to be the new strike boss that will replace Omnigul in the activity.
Some fans have begun throwing around their own theories of what the two changed names could mean, gathering around a Reddit post by user u/CallMeVion. The most popular guess among the comments is that this is just a new wizard that has taken over the previous task that Omnigul had been charged with, possibly even taking the title of Will of Crota on herself. However, while the older lore of Destiny will likely continue to have an impact on the game as Destiny 2 continues to reincorporate older content, this returning strike is expected to bring new story elements to the series.
Players are only given a brief view of this strike, so it’s hard to say exactly what this new wizard might mean for the Hive moving forward. There is still plenty to pull apart from the Beyond Light ViDoc that may have teased more about this new direction the game is taking with the true nature of the darkness and those that use it. So, if this Navota is a completely new character being introduced as this major transitioning period is underway, she might be able to offer more insight on enemy factions like the Hive than Omnigul before her.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
