Concept Creator and Let’s Go Digital have teamed up to create an amazing design for a PS5 slim version. The video showcasing the design was shared on October 29th, and fans are absolutely loving the design. In classic slim fashion, it draws inspiration from the original console but doesn’t look exactly the same.
It should be said that this PS5 slim design is fan made, not official. At the moment, there’s been no word from Sony about plans for a PS5 slim or PS5 pro, so this is just for viewing pleasure. That said, it does show what would be possible if Sony were to pursue a slim version for this console.
The video below shows off the PS5 slim in a dramatic fashion befitting of this generation’s console reveal videos. Lights flash on and off, there are several close ups of the console and its accompanying DualSense controller, and epic music blares in the background. After a bit of this, the full console is finally revealed before fading to black.
The design itself draws heavily from the actual PS5 console, maintaining its signature, striking two-tone color scheme and compelling curves. On the original PS5, the black portions are flanked on either side with a white casing, but in this case the console is split more down the middle. Along the curve in the center, a blue light shines through to indicate the console’s status. The PS5 design is still rather large so as to accommodate fans for cooling, but its slim nature would likely fit better in many player’s homes.
Towards the end of the video, a fade to black obscures the console from sight, but not before playing a little trick on audiences. In the last few seconds of the fade, it appears as though the console is monotone black for a few brief moments, likely a call to a similar incident with the DualSense. In one of Sony’s promotional videos, the DualSense was shown in low light, leading many to believe that there might be an all black version of the PS5 console and controllers. This could still happen in the future, but at the moment there are no such variants.
Fans applaud the design in general, with the biggest complaint being the lack of a disc drive. That said, it seems likely that Sony would go the digital route for a PS5 slim, as the disc drive contributes to quite a bit of the original console’s bulk.
