inXile Entertainment’s Wasteland 3 has just hit a big milestone. After releasing exactly two months ago, Wasteland 3 has continued to grow and now has reached 1 million players.
Wasteland 3 reviewed very well when it launched, which has helped propel the franchise to a successful player count. Although Wasteland is nowhere near as big of an RPG as the likes of The Witcher or Elder Scrolls, it has quickly supplanted itself as one of the better RPGs of the year, and more players are jumping into the post-apocalyptic adventure.
inXile Entertainment made the announcement via its official Twitter page, and also released a short film that was apparently created a few years ago. The mood-setting piece shows what Colorado is like in this post-apocalyptic, frozen, and often lonely world. Those who are interested in Wasteland 3 should know that the game carries with it a dark mix of comedy and brutality, and the film shows that. Along with celebrating the milestone, the tweet likely will bring in a few players as well. The short film is well made enough to raise some eyebrows, and now word of mouth is starting to spread about the game as a whole.
The setting of Wasteland 3 is dark and cold, but the humor helps with the tone. Meanwhile, the game has deep and impactful choices that can be made. In some games, the decisions that the player makes don’t seem to impact the game as much as advertised, but with Wasteland 3, there are big consequences to choices that are made. Anyone who is beginning Wasteland 3 should also be excited to dive into the combat, which is satisfying once it clicks.
Although Microsoft has made plenty of big-name purchases lately, it has to be pleased with the purchase of inXile Entertainment thus far. Wasteland 3 is a delight, and the fact that it is available on Game Pass likely helped contribute to the 1 million players. There is a chance that the franchise will start to boom, now that more players are getting their hands on it, meaning the eventual Wasteland 4 could be an even bigger success.
inXile is also making another RPG outside of the Wasteland series. According to the developer, the game is in its infancy development stage, so it’ll likely be a while before anyone can enjoy it. But for now, Wasteland 3 should provide more than enough fun for those who are interested in the asymmetric RPG gameplay and a setting that is distinct, funny, and memorable.
Wasteland 3 is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
