The crafting system allows players to customize furniture like never before, swapping colors, choosing their styles, and overall, building what they want to build.

While this incredible game bringing new pieces into players’ homes and onto their islands, it also reimagines some of the classics. New Horizons brings back many of the series’ original items, like the radio and simple bed. While some fan favorites like the froggy chair may be absent, there are plenty more that fans should celebrate.

10 Original: Imperial Screen

The exotic furniture series has been in the Animal Crossing franchise since the days of Animal Forest. This Asian inspired folding screen has since undergone some transformations, renamed imperial rather than exotic, and changing its colors from red & brown to red & gold. This item is a staple for many players’ houses or outdoor gardens. A symbol of sophistication and style, the imperial screen adds a nice splash of color to any bathroom, outdoor flower garden, bedroom, or relaxation area.

9 New: Ironwood DIY Workbench

Crafting was introduced to Animal Crossing back in Pocket Camp, but New Horizons transitioned the system into a full-fledged console game. Crafting is the backbone of New Horizons, and as such, it’s a necessity that players have crafting stations situated throughout their homes and around the island. One of the most sought after DIY recipe sets in New Horizons is the Ironwood set, and for players hoping to continue crafting, the Ironwood DIY Workbench is a must-have. Its sleek metal and light wood design give any room a warm, modern, and minimalist feeling.

8 Original: Spooky Table

The spooky series is the classic October furniture set that fans all love. Full of pumpkins, ghosts, and a palette of orange & purple, this set brings out the spooky in spooky season. In New Horizons, the spooky series has undergone some changes, doing away with the classic pumpkin bed and other items in favor of new holiday arches and fence posts. The spooky table, however, has persisted. This enormous bisected pumpkin isn’t the same table players are used to, but it gets the job done. Rather than being a table inspired by pumpkins, it’s a table made out of a giant pumpkin, which as an item that the player crafts themselves.

7 New: Taurus Bathtub

Players know that some nights they have friends wandering their island, like Wisp the ghost, or Celeste the Owl. The latter is a special interaction that means only one thing; a meteor shower. Finding shooting stars in the sky will reward players the following morning with star fragments that can be used to build special DIY recipes that Celeste hands out. Some of these recipes are themed after the astrological signs and fans have been quick to rally around their favorites. One such item is the Taurus Bathtub, a porcelain bath shaped like a bull with gilded golden horns and tail. What else is there to say? It’s just pretty.

6 Original: Orange End Table

Fruit-themed furniture has been a staple of the Animal Crossing series forever and the citrus table was always an important first step in setting up a fruit-themed room. Luckily for New Horizons players, the Orange table makes a grand entrance!

The classic lemon and grapefruit tables have been reskinned and are now one item called the orange end table. It is one of the many DIY recipes players can find in message bottles, shoot down in balloons, or be gifted by friendly neighbors.

5 New: Apple Chair

Unlike the Orange Chair, classic Animal Crossing never had a piece of apple furniture for players to sit on. For many games, the only apple furniture was a clock and a TV. Finally, Animal Crossing: New Horizons gave players the fruit chair they deserved: the apple chair. This item is crafted through a DIY recipe that players can receive from friendly villagers, find in a bottle, or be gifted by Tom Nook. This snazzy chair is also customizable, so players can choose if they want their apple looking like a classic red or a trendy green.

4 Original: Cute Lamp

Some players may notice that there are no lovely item sets like there were in past Animal Crossing games. The classic set has been traded out for a new set called the Cute furniture. Many of the Cute items are new and individual pieces, but some, like the Cute Lamp, are those lovely furniture pieces fans know and… love. The classic variation adorned with a pink lampshade and a heart pull-cord brings fans back to the days of old, of rooms filled to the brim with the color pink. While many furniture items in New Horizons have customizable color options, few bring out the pink like the cute furniture does, and like the lovely furniture used to.

3 New: Pile Of Leaves

Everyone loves a good leaf pile, and the fall update for New Horizons gave us what fans really wanted out of autumn. The Pile of Leaves DIY recipe is only available in the fall and players will need to shoot it out of a balloon before it disappears for a whole year. Costing 3 pine cones and 5 clumps of weeds, it’s not expensive by any means, and players can cover their whole island in custom designs and leaf piles. These piles are a nice natural touch for players to add to their busy islands.

2 Original: Well

Many fans of New Horizons use the new craftable wells to cover their islands, but they may not remember that a piece of Well furniture existed long ago in the original games. The Western furniture set from the original Animal Crossing contained an old wooden well that players could place around their house.

While New Horizons’ wells are a bit nicer, being made of stone and brick, it’s nice that players finally have those items back again. The well DIY recipes are available to purchase from the Nook Stop.

1 New: Robot Hero

Perhaps the most taunting item in all of New Horizons is the Robot Hero. Its DIY recipe is purchasable from the Nook Stop and right away it was an item many players set their eyes upon. Unfortunately, the cost to craft this giant robot warrior is incredibly high, and its components are largely random. Costing 10 golden nuggets and 90 iron nuggets are fine– the real kickers are the 30 rusted parts, which require Gulliver showing up many many times; the gold armor which is in itself another randomly received crafting recipe; and the rocket, which is a DIY only obtainable by Celeste, who has plenty of her own recipes to hand out. Overall, this robot is quite the prize if players can ever manage to build it.
