Bungie is having a very busy week regarding the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, Beyond Light. So far, players have gotten deep dives into the new destination, Europa, insights into the new Stasis subclasses, and a peak into the story. Most recently, game director Luke Smith answered one of the hottest questions in the community regarding transmog and stated that players will not be required to keep armor in inventories or vaults to be able to use their appearance in transmog.
Transmog is one of the more transformative features coming to Destiny 2 and it will arrive sometime after Beyond Light and Season of the Hunt. It will let players don any look they want regardless of their armor setup. Details on the system have been scarce as the team was still early in developing it. Regardless, the dedicated fans have been anxious about having to keep armor sets to later convert them into appearances via transmog.
In a recent livestream, Luke Smith assured players that they can safely delete armor pieces that are only being kept for their appearance. Players should, of course, only get rid of armor that was being stored solely for fashion purposes. The transmog feature will take into consideration the entire player Collections, meaning that if a piece is unlocked in Collections, it will be ready for transmog.
This will obviously do wonders for Vault spaces as fans have been hoarding gear just to be safe. It is worth clarifying that players will not be able to reacquire the armor itself from Collections. The transmog feature will simply allow the player to take an armor piece’s appearance and apply it to whichever piece they choose, like universal ornaments from Eververse.
A controversial aspect of this is that the transmog service will not be free and players will be able to convert an armor into a transmog appearance through unspecified gameplay means or Silver. With the recent Bright Dust changes, players are worried that transmog will become a Bright Dust sink, draining players of currency that would’ve been used to buy new appearances from Eververse.
Similar to transmog, Ghosts will also undergo a major overhaul, allowing players to pick an appearance for their Ghost without worrying about perks. In essence, Ghost perks have been converted into mods, and existing Ghosts have become pure vanity items. Every Ghost Shell will have the same mod slots so players can choose their favorite looking Ghost and apply any available mods without worrying about rarity or any other factor.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, and the Beyond Light expansion will release November 10. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are currently in development.
