Pikmin 3 Deluxe is now available for Nintendo Switch. Players can collect fruit, make juice, and hang out with the updated Pikmin for around 20 hours of adorable gameplay, but the number of in-game days one experiences may vary from playthrough to playthrough.
Players of the newest Pikmin will notice some differences in how time is handled compared to previous entries. In the original Pikmin, players only had 30 in-game days to complete the story; the third installment doesn’t have such a limit. In-game days are tracked through the Mission HUD, and players can keep going almost forever, so long as they have the juice to continue. But players should know before starting Pikmin 3 Deluxe that there’s a limit to the total number of juice they can receive in one Story Mode playthrough.
Juice is made automatically at the end of each in-game day in Pikmin 3 Deluxe, so long as players have picked up fruit. After the day’s fruit has been processed into juice, players will see a screen showing how much juice they have remaining. Each jar of juice allows them to continue for one day, but if a player runs out of juice they can only play one more day before the game is over. They’ll need to use those hours to find some fruit that they may have missed in Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
Continuing to advance the story at a normal pace will not only allow players to unlock new colors of Pikmin, but also get them closer to the end of the total limit of juice available. There are a grand total of 64 pieces of fruit that players can get. Since fruit doesn’t respawn, players need to keep checking the Mission HUD to see how many fruits are remaining in levels that they missed.
With the total limit for fruit being 64, and each one offering different juice levels, players can make a grand total of 98 juices to keep their Pikmin going strong. This means that players can get a total of 99 days out of the game before there is no more fruit to be had.
Although there is a total of 99 possible days, most players won’t get close to that. The average playthrough of Pikmin 3 Deluxe only needs about 18 in-game days. While it is theoretically possible to drag the game out to collect all the fruit and make it to 99 days, the vast majority of players won’t get there. However, it’s nice to know that many days are possible, especially if players are taking on Pikmin 3 Deluxe on the new “Ultra Spicy” mode.
