Since The Batman got its first trailer released during DC FanDome, back in August 22nd, fans have had to settle for small leaks pointing to the possible course Matt Reeves might take with Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. However, thanks to a very hard working and talented YouTuber, everyone can now watch the full trailer in very high quality LEGO style.
It’s no secret that Batman and LEGO are pretty tight, with a whole bunch of games featuring the superhero, of course, 2017’s The Lego Batman Movie, which is already booked for a sequel. Hence it’s no surprise someone, even unofficially, took the reins to making LEGO The Batman.
The user by the name of Joebor1777 makes it clear in his video description that this was no easy feat, starting work on the magnificent production the same day The Batman’s trailer dropped and crediting 14 different studios and other creators for their contributions to his LEGO trailer. Hard work, but well worth it.
Among those praising the LEGO trailer in social media is one of The Batman’s own writers, Mattson Tomlin. The video nails down every aspect of the original trailer in true LEGO fashion, everything from the duct tape sounds to perfect facial animations on the minifigures and Nirvana’s “Something in the Way” come together for a jaw-dropping spectacle.
Stop motion animation is a notably difficult thing to make, so that’s partly what makes projects like these so wonderful, especially when they recreate the source material in such a flawless way. Joebor1777’s YouTube channel is packed with plenty of other LEGO stop motion work featuring the likes of Spider-Man and The Mandalorian, all delivering the same block perfect technique.
Not much is known about The Batman’s plot so far, except for the fact that it will feature plenty of Gotham villains like Carmine Falcone, The Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman, as well as a modern current day time setting, currently being shot in the UK before it moves filming over to Chicago. Since it’s likely Warner Bros. will release a new trailer for The Batman before 2022, maybe the same artists could spare some time for another go at that in the future.
The Batman is currently under reproduction and scheduled for release on March 4, 2022.
