Watch Dogs: Legion is the newest installment to the hacker-themed franchise with some major improvements. One of the biggest changes allows players to recruit members to their DedSec team and take back London. What makes this feature more interesting is each character’s life.
They function outside of being controlled by the player. This means that a player can run into one of their recruits while traversing London. It also means they can get in trouble. With the new permadeath system, this can spell trouble for a player’s team rather quickly if they aren’t prepared. So gear up, we are recruiting now.
10 Take Advantage Of Time
Once a player activates the permadeath system they have a few missions before it activates. This is good because it gives the player time to get themselves situated in the world. Take advantage of this time and get the crazy out of your system before going wild when permadeath is active. Players should try to get side missions like the Bare Knuckle Brawl tournaments out of the way. Also, use this time to get used to the game again.
9 Recruit, Recruit, Recruit
Recruits are aplenty in the new Watch Dogs. Everywhere a player goes they can find new people to complete missions for. Each one of these missions will guarantee the person to become an ally. Try to recruit as many people as possible in the beginning so there is someone to fall back on in case of a character’s death. Nobody is perfect and mistakes are bound to happen. One accident on a motorcycle could end the life of a recruit. Luckily, a stockpile of them will always guarantee more mayhem and less worrying about the future.
8 Check Out A Potential Recruit’s Perks For “Doomed”
Almost every character that a player recruits will have perks. These perks can be super useful in many situations. After all, gunfights, stealth, and hacking are major parts of the game. Be careful about picking certain characters with the Doomed and Death Wish perks even if they have amazing perks on top of those. The Doomed trait means that the character has a chance to spontaneously die. Nobody wants that. The Death Wish trait basically acts in the same way. Neither of these options is great when permadeath is active unless there are plenty of characters to fall back on.
7 Be Cautious During A Fight
As we said, gunfights are a standard thing in Watch Dogs: Legion and it would be a shame if a player got their character killed in one. That is why a key rule is to play it safe. If there is something in sight but guards are around it, don’t try to take them on head first.
Use that brain to figure out a way around or come up with a strategy to separate them. It’s better to waste a few more minutes than to run in and get killed. Every recruit matters after all and losing them too early will result in a game over.
6 Keep A List Of Backups
Death is a guarantee when playing with permadeath. That is why it is always smart to keep a list. What kind of list? A list of possible recruits for when beloved grandma or that wild motorcyclist end up passing away. It’s easy to save potential recruits to the team so there is always a backup to go and get when the inevitable happens. When looking at someone’s profile in the game, just hold the prompted button to save them to potential recruits.
5 Gather Tech Points
Remember when we said to take advantage of the time? This is why. There are tons of tech points to gather in the game that are scattered around London. Plenty of these can be retrieved at the start without the need for a certain mission or gear. Take advantage of this. The more points a player collects, the more gear they can start off with before permadeath becomes active. This way they will have tons of goodies to use and multiple recruits to use them with.
4 Clear Boroughs Early
It is possible to take even more advantage of the time before permadeath becomes active by taking to the boroughs. Each borough can be made defiant by taking out the red markers on the map. This is done by rescuing people, destroying propaganda, etc. This will have a few benefits for a player early on. This will net them some currency to use in the stores, get them access to new recruits, and also get them a free recruit for all their hard work.
3 Watch Your Weapon
It’s very easy to accidentally pull a weapon out in public. One slip of a finger and a player will be frightening every character within a city block. Be careful not to pull a weapon out because Albion forces will be watching.
The last thing a player needs is to have multiple Albion agents coming down on them with an iron fist. This will help prevent tragedies from happening and keep characters alive. Also, pulling a weapon out in public hurts a player’s chance of getting new recruits for a little while. At least in that area.
2 Pay Attention During Missions
Some missions, especially recruitment missions, have surprise twists that will leave a player dumbfounded and running for their life. Countless times has a van been delivered for somebody just to have Albion troops come flying in and taking them out. Listen carefully as to not get surprised when things go sideways. Player death is something to avoid and it can easily happen when caught off guard.
1 Don’t Be Afraid
Permadeath sound like a horrible thing. It can definitely be a little jarring to think that a beloved character could bite the dust at any moment or fall while in your control. While it should heighten awareness a little bit, it shouldn’t prevent anyone from playing the game. Don’t be afraid to take on the challenge. Remember the controls, learn from mistakes, and keep on moving. Always remember, permadeath can be turned off if it becomes too much of a challenge.
