EA Motive Isn’t Working on a Star Wars Game | Game Rant

The last few Star Wars games have been pretty well received, with the likes of both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Squadrons receiving generally favorable reviews. Earlier this week, speculation that EA Motive, the studio behind Squadrons, was working on another Star Wars game started to run rampant, after a job listing on the company’s website indicated that another game set in the universe was being worked on. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to be the case.

EA Motive has since released a statement about the situation, indicating that no such project is in the works. On Twitter, the company stated that the confusion was “due to human error” and that no Star Wars project is in the works. The silver lining is that Motive is working on a new game, and while no details were provided about its nature, Motive did say that it was something “pretty special.”

It’s an ambiguous tease, and one that doesn’t indicate what’s next for the developer. Previously, Motive confirmed there wouldn’t be any major Star Wars Squadrons DLC, so it seems likely that the developer will be investing all of its energy into its next project, whatever that might end up being.

EA Motive’s previous work has pretty much entirely centered around Star Wars games, so it is a bit odd seeing the studio move on from that. However, the developer has seemingly learned a lot from the game’s so it’ll be interesting to see what it’s cooking up next.

Star Wars games have been an interesting topic. EA has had a relatively slow churn of games, considering how popular the IP is. That, coupled with the major PR blunders, like Battlefront 2’s microtransactions, has led to a lackluster track record with many of the triple-a games that have launched for the franchise. With Squadrons and Fallen Order reversing that trend, new Star Wars games are increasingly something fans would want to see.

There are also a number of major Star Wars sub-franchises fans would want to see return, chief among them Knights of the Old RepublicWhile BioWare, the developer of the first game, is seemingly indisposed with Anthem’s overhaul and a possible Mass Effect trilogy remaster, many fans desperately want to see the series return.

For now, fans will just have to wait and see. With any luck, there will be more Star Wars games in the near future, but it’s a bit too early to tell at the moment.
