The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War file is massive in comparison to other games. As fans prepare their hard drives for the large download, information regarding the day one update has surfaced. This Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War update will be a last-minute patch to the game and is standard procedure for most title releases.
Normally, day one patches fix last-minute content before the game officially goes live. For a game as large as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a day one patch could mean engine optimization, file compression, or even weapon balancing that did not make it into the last patch, but needed to be added before the game officially launched.
According to the MP1st internal tracker, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launch day update will only be 11.8GB. While there is no information as to what the update will do, it is much smaller than the day one update for the previous title. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s update was 20GB on launch day for PS4, and in some cases, prior games have received even larger patches than that. Still, day one updates are necessary for the game to function and be the best experience possible for the game’s dedicated community.
More information as to the upcoming early content for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been released. Although there is still some time before the Call of Duty: Warzone integration, the game is already planning on adding a new map with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War gaining Nuketown. This is only part of the extra content headed to the game in the coming weeks after launch.
While several multiplayer content updates are already being listed in the future, many fans are looking towards the campaign in excitement. It is possible that the day one update repairs campaign content as the game’s story was not included in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha and Beta.
Once the game launches, most fans are predicting that it will fall into the Tuesday patch pattern that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty Mobile, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 have all been following. While assorted updates are released throughout the week, Tuesday seems to be exclusively reserved for major patches and game announcements through the Activision blog.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to launch on November 13th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
