Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is only one week away, and a fair amount of press coverage is being devoted to it. Fans are curious to learn more about when Season 1 will drop in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Despite this Black Ops Cold War focus, there are still legions of fans wanting to know more details about what lies ahead for Call of Duty: Warzone. On the Rank Up Report, one of Activision’s COD blogs, details emerged about the new-to-Warzone Operator, Sgt. Griggs.
Griggs has been teased for a while in Season 6, mentioned by name by Captain Price earlier on, but he has yet to make an appearance, leaving fans in the dark about when the operator might arrive. Call of Duty: Warzone finds itself in a strange position, saddled between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. It is also an unusual time for Warzone, as the EngineOwning cheat software has become undetectable by Activision due to its latest update. This means that an influx of cheaters is likely to infect the game in the coming days. Needless to say, Warzone needs a pick-me-up.
Enter Sgt. Griggs, who will make his debut in Call of Duty: Warzone as part of a bundle in the COD store. Paired with three blueprint weapons—an AR, SMG, and combat knife—and a host of other items, the “Sarge” Griggs skin is being pushed as Activision’s “Operator of the Week.” The character first appeared in 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as part of the Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance team. Now he joins the best-selling game in Call of Duty history, right at the tail end of Modern Warfare‘s lifecycle.
Griggs’ Operator skin might be one of the last new pieces of content before the integration between Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Fans have been given more details as to how Call of Duty: Warzone will integrate with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and when it comes to Operators, any characters unlocked in Black Ops Cold War will immediately be available for use in Warzone.
While some parts of the handover from Infinity Ward to Treyarch are starting to become clear, one key question yet to be answered is what will happen to Warzone map, Verdansk. The Season 1 roadmap of Black Ops Cold War only mentions a “classified Warzone experience” and fans are wondering if a change of venue, with perhaps Alcatraz Island showing up in Call of Duty: Warzone.
A great deal of speculation abounds at this time, but one thing is for sure. Sgt. Griggs will be dropping into Verdansk starting next week.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with availability on PS5 & Xbox Series X/S coming soon.
