Xbox Series X Games Take Up Way More Space Than Xbox Series S

For how much information that has surfaced in terms of both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, there are still quite a lot of additional details about the two consoles that the gaming community is actively finding out. With the release of both consoles just one week away, some decently concerning news has been found out in terms of the Xbox Series X in particular with regards to game file sizes.

One thing that has been made acutely clear going into this next generation of consoles is that game file sizes are starting to get much, much larger compared to the previous generation. With most game file sizes anywhere between 50 to 100 GB, a recent update from Xbox News shows clearly how much disparity there is between the file size of Xbox Series X games vs. Xbox Series S games.

Over on Twitter, Xbox News showed just how reduced the file size Xbox Series S games are compared to Xbox Series X. For instance, the file size of Sea of Thieves on Series X is 47 GB, whereas on the Series S, it’s only 17 GB, a reduction of at least 64%. Though, that file size reduction does not only apply to Sea of Thieves.

Both Gears 5 and Dirt 5 were reduced by a significant amount in terms of file sizes. This feature was mentioned quite a bit in the past, but now to see the actual statistics in terms of how much a difference there is between the file sizes on both consoles is quite impressive to behold.

For how many hardware differences there are between the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X, the fact that storage will at the very least be much more manageable on the Series S, along with being a much cheaper alternative in terms of a next-gen console, is quite impressive in its own right.

It will be interesting to see how much the Xbox Series S succeeds, given that it’s launching at the exact same time as the Series X. Given that the PS5 has no alternate console similar to the Series S, outside of the PS5 digital edition, the Series S appears to be a sort of outlier in terms of the next console generation. Only time will tell if the Series S will be able to keep up with the Series X and hopefully will be able to keep up in terms of sales.

The Xbox Series X/S is set to launch on November 10th, 2020.
