The upcoming PlayStation 5 has an array of new and interesting features for fans to discover on launch day. The PS5 is an impressive piece of hardware with an ultra-quick SSD that promises faster load times and the best looking games Sony has available to date.
The PS4 previously recorded trophies by taking a screenshot of the moment the respective trophy was collecting, forever memorializing that moment. One of the PS5’s newest features takes that feature and dials it up by recording a few seconds leading up to the moment the trophy was collected in order to provide more context and potentially leading to some cool moments for players to share with the world.
While this feature is certainly an interesting addition, the PS5 has limited storage on its SSD that fans will likely want to reserve for games rather than clips. There is only 667GB of free space on the PS5 and according to Alex Walker at Kotaku, some clips can take up as much as 34MB of space. While that number itself isn’t particularly huge, there is definitely potential for the amount of space taken up by trophy clips to quickly fill up more than desired. Thankfully, the feature is rather easy to disable.
To disable this feature on the PS5, simply go to the Settings menu and look for Captures and Broadcasts, where the options to affect the Captures, Broadcasts, and Trophies are to be found. Then, scroll down to Trophies and look for the option, Save Trophy Videos, which will have a white circle filled in indicating that feature is currently enable. Moving the white circle to the left will disable the feature and will thusly make the Trophy Video Duration disappear as it is no longer in use.
Some players may find themselves stuck between wanting to record some trophies and not others, and thankfully, there’s a work around for that as well. The Create button on the DualSense, which is already regarded as an amazing controller, will allow players to record a brief snippet of recent gameplay, which can also be customized to record up to a full hour or as little at 15 seconds of gameplay. The most important thing to consider here are the option Sony has made available to its fans.
While having to go through a series of menus just to save the console’s limited storage from filling up may be annoying, the options at hand should be acknowledged. Players who enjoy the feature will have it at their disposal from the very start, and those who may balk at it don’t need to do much to keep the feature from annoying them.
The PlayStation 5 will release on November 12, 2020.
