The Last of Us 2 on PS5 Supports Haptic Feedback | Game Rant

While there’s no confirmation from Sony’s behalf on next-gen PS5 tweaks for Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed title The Last of Us 2, a new report suggests that the backwards compatible version of the game benefits from one of the biggest next-generation feature: Haptic feedback technology.

The Last of Us 2  had one of the most successful first-party PS4 launches this year with the game selling over four million copies in its first week, thereby surpassing 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man as the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive of all time. While Sucker Punch Productions and Bend Studio have laid out the list of features that would be making in the PS5 versions of their games, Naughty Dog has yet to officially reveal how the PS5 version of The Last of Us 2 will differ from its PS4 variant.

Thankfully a new report from GamesRadar reveals a few tidbits regarding the game’s implementation of haptic feedback technology. Courtesy of this, players can now feel the tension in the DualSense adaptive triggers when they tug the string on the bow, one of the key weapons in the game. Moreover, every bullet shot also adds much more feel in contrast to what players could experience in the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller. Additionally, players can also feel the rumble of the boat’s engine while traversing in a specific chapter of the game. Ramming through obstacles as well as taking sharp turns will also result in feedbacks that feels genuine. While the haptics is a great addition to the PS5 version of the game, little tweaks such as the color of DualSense LED transitioning to green to resemble the moth in the loading screen also makes for a subtle change.

Even though The Last of Us  2 was received with generally high reviews from critics all around the globe, the game was riddled with backlash and review bombing from a multitude of die-hard fans of the original title. The situation became direr when Actor Laura Bailey, who plays the role of Abby in the game, received death threats over social media for portraying her character. Creative Director Neil Druckmann unfortunately, was also in a similar situation.

While it is not perfect, The Last of Us 2 does exemplify its theme of the cycle of violence through its bold narrative choices and raw performances from its hefty cast of characters. With Cyberpunk 2077 out of the GOTY race at this year’s The Game Awards, The Last of Us 2 seems to be the most popular contender as of now.

The Last of Us 2 is now available on PS4.
