Call of Duty Mobile Season 12 Update Adds Hackney Yard and More New Content

With the release of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S today, and Sony’s PlayStation 5 preparing to launch Thursday in select regions, gamers are anticipating the change to play next-gen titles. One major launch game for this new generation is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but it is currently rumored that Black Ops Cold War had plans to launch with additional maps. That said, more are likely to release after the fact, like with Modern Warfare and Call of Duty Mobile.

At 4:00 p.m. PST, Call of Duty Mobile will begin Season 12. A teaser released for the new season of content yesterday discussed its “Going Dark” theme, adding night missions, new operators, weapons, and more. However, a more official post to the Call of Duty Blog today outlines the new season’s content in greater detail, including a returning Modern Warfare map called Hackney Yard.

Hackney Yard is one of three maps that will have “Night Mode” in this new season, alongside Crash and Summit. The mode will leave these locales pitch black, requiring players to use night vision goggles or laser sights to see. A new Team Deathmatch playlist called “Attack of the Undead” will focus on Night Mode maps and bring back zombified players from Call of Duty Mobile‘s recent Halloween event.

Other goodies players can unlock through the Season 12 Battle Pass include the Ballistic Shield Operator Skill and the AGR 556 SMG, while Premium Pass holders can also get special skins for Captain Price, Urban Tracker, and Ghost. Around Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the game’s first Legendary Operator skin for Nikto will be available alongside other deals, adding another tier of unlockable content similar to Call of Duty Mobile‘s new Mythic weapon rarities.

Even more will become available throughout Season 12, and players have the opportunity to try out challenges and events such as the team-based territory game mode Knights Divided. As a follow-up to Call of Duty Mobile‘s anniversary season, Going Dark seems to have a little something for everyone, even those who just want the chance to revisit Hackney Yard on the go.

Though it may not have the same dynamic marketing campaigns as its console siblings, Call of Duty Mobile has been a massively successful title with record-breaking player registrations and revenue pull. In fact, the game is cited as one key example of Activision’s recent success, with Activision Blizzard reporting it made over $1 billion in microtransactions over three months.

Call of Duty Mobile is available now on Android and iOS devices.
