10 Games To Play After You Finish Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

There’s hardly a chance one will be done with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla any time soon after starting their playthrough, but it has to end at one point. The trouble with playing a title as long as this one is that gamers get way too much into the groove of the game’s style and setting.

For this reason, it’s worth channeling that attitude towards titles that are either similar in quality or are completely the opposite. Some of the games on this list share a resemblance with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and are for those who want more of that experience. Others serve as a palate cleanser that should be your first stop to enter new worlds of gameplay.

10 God Of War (2018)

For many, there will be inevitable comparisons between this game and Valhalla. That’s justified, too, seeing as God of War did make the Nordic theme so popular a couple years earlier. Regardless, completing Valhalla is bound to get gamers pumped for this title too.

It would make one feel empowered since God of War features a protagonist vastly more powerful and on his way to starting Ragnarok. There’s enough thematic similarity here to continue the mood from Valhalla, along with enough difference for it to come across as a refreshing experience.

9 Assassin’s Creed III (2012)

Sure, Assassin’s Creed III doesn’t rank as high in the series as it could have, but it is a notable epoch for the franchise. This comes down to it being the end of Desmond’s story, which will be a very attractive prospect since Valhalla also brought back plot threads from this angle.

That sense of finality that Valhalla brings was earlier delivered in Assassin’s Creed III. In addition, that epic scale of this title does hold up after all these years. Since fans will still be in the mindset of playing stories that finish things off, this game needs a definite playthrough.

8 The Last Of Us Part II (2020)

Although one is going to be drained by the long campaign of Valhalla, that fighting spirit is going to linger. To this end, The Last of Us Part II is the best stop to satiate this feeling, being a game that thrives on the theme of revenge and honor.

Gameplay isn’t too far off from Valhalla, with exploration and crafting also featured prominently here. However, the brutality on display is certainly an acquired taste. Then again, players will be looking for something unique on its own and The Last of Us Part II certainly is just that.

7 Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (2017)

Interestingly, this title is both similar and completely different from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The setting is identical to its Nordic setting, but the gameplay is a world of its own. Hellblade takes the hack and slash approach, being a hard-hitting game that requires one to dive all in.

The creativity doesn’t stop there, with elements of psychological horror, puzzle-solving, and action-adventure blended together. It’s no doubt an unsettling venture for most, although one would come out a far better player than when they started.

6 Cyberpunk 2077 (2020)

The modern gaming landscape allows players to change things up around the same time, and Cyberpunk 2077 is joining Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as a game for the next generation’s launch window. To enjoy this one, players need to take everything they did in Valhalla and toss it out the window.

One look at Cyberpunk 2077 will tell you why, as the game is a futuristic first-person game that is deeply entrenched in the technological aspect of things. This involves extreme ballistics and hacking scenarios in an open-world, which is the ultimate palate cleanser after the period setting of Valhalla.

5 Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)

A marriage between a period setting and a technological one can be found here. While there are improvements that can be made for the sequel, Horizon Zero Dawn is otherwise a worthy journey into the futuristic dystopian savannah.

It doesn’t take the hardened style of storytelling that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes, although the attitude and appearance of the characters are somewhat familiar. Gameplay is a superb mix of melee and ranged combat which will feel like an upgrade for those coming in after finishing Valhalla.

4 Devil May Cry 5 (2019)

If you’re looking for an extreme level of change, Devil May Cry 5 is the only way to go. Ranked among the best entries in the series, it takes an unabashed turn into the hack and slash genre, surviving which has only one technique and that involves slashing one’s way to the end.

At its heart, the story carries a theme of family, entailing a heartwarming campaign. Not to mention the exceptionally stylish protagonists, all three of whom bring their own personalities and traits. Gameplay here will feel like the shackles have been broken considering Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s limited power level.

3 Rise Of The Tomb Raider (2015)

There is more to see in this game than the costumes that Lara Croft rocks. This title is geared towards the tundra setting of the mountains and mellows down a bit on the previous entry’s hard-hitting style to bring a balanced focus on combat and puzzle-solving.

After playing the excessively long campaign of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the linear style of gameplay in Rise of the Tomb Raider will be very much welcome. That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to explore, with the game featuring an open-world that is filled with danger and tombs to discover.

2 Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

With this title improving upon the flaws of its predecessor, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set to bring in more superhero fun. It’s a well-deserved sidestep into this genre for games after the heavily thematic style of Valhalla. Miles Morales is simple entertainment that will deliver in droves.

It’s another launch title for the PS5 and should be the next game on your list if you’re done with Valhalla. Zipping around New York City with the Spider-Man powers will be like stepping into a completely new experience that is both fast-paced and filled with optimistic energy.

1 Assassin’s Creed (2007)

Had it not been for the first game, fans wouldn’t have made it a habit to speculate where future games would be set in history. Since Assassin’s Creed Valhalla marks another ending of sorts for the series, it’s worth revisiting how it all began.

Another major reason to go for this game is the fact that it follows directly after Valhalla in terms of in-universe chronology, as it is set around three centuries after the events of the former game. It’s also a great way in reflecting just how far the series has come.
