Target PS5 Shipping Warning Causes Confusion and Alarm

With the launch of the Xbox Series X now out of the way, gamers around the world are waiting for the launch of the PlayStation 5 this Thursday. For those lucky enough to secure a PS5 pre-order from Target, there might have been a scary, but incorrect, warning about how their PS5 will be shipped to them that raised some eyebrows.

Customers checking on their PS5 pre-orders from Target might notice a warning about how their PS5 will be shipped, stating that the PS5 package would be in its original packaging, and not be shipped in a box. However, the warning is an error on Target’s end, and PS5s will indeed come in an innocuous brown box when they leave warehouses.

Twitter user Wario64 showed a conversation with Target’s customer service about the warning label, and despite the warning, the PS5 will indeed be coming packaged in a traditional Target brown box. It’s also likely that games, like launch title Assassin’s Creed Vallhalla, will also be delivered in a box, or sleeve, of some sort, meaning that Target customers shouldn’t have to worry about their games or console being shipped in only the original packaging.

This means that PS5  purchasers shouldn’t have to worry about their PS5 being stolen due to it being exposed on doorsteps. However, the damage has been done, and there will likely be customers confused about what is going to happen to their PS5 when it eventually ships.

Additionally, despite Target’s customer service claiming that PS5’s will indeed be shipped in a brown box, customers are still receiving the warning about the PS5 being shipped in only its original packaging. That means that there are potentially tons of customers around the country who are worried that their high-spec PS5 will be shipped in its original packaging.

The PS5 is a big console, and it could easily be noticed by passers-by if shipped in its original packaging. It may be wise for Target to send a message to its customers stating that the PS5 will be shipped in a brown Target box, so those who bought a PS5 from it can rest easy, knowing that their console will be safe when it is eventually shipped to their homes. The launch is just a few days away at this point, though, so it may not be necessary.

The PS5 is set to launch on November 12.
