Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch confirmed that another 10 episodes of its reality building competition, Lego Masters, have been ordered. Host and exec producer Will Arnett, voice of Lego Batman himself, will be returning and it’s likely the judges Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard will be joining him too.
Preparations for the second season began in May for a midseason launch but the deal took longer than expected. The second season will begin filming in Spring 2021 for broadcast later in the year.
Originally broadcast on Channel 4 in the U.K., Lego Masters was an instant hit drawing comparisons with another feel good reality competition, The Great British Baking Show and spawned several international spin-offs. Contestants compete in teams of 2 taking on weekly building challenges. Week by week, teams are eliminated with the eventual winning team having their work displayed in Denmark’s Lego Museum (but for the FOX show, this was changed to a cash prize of $100,000 and a Lego Masters Trophy). The U.S. version ran back in the before times of February and according to judge Corbett, over 3 million blocks were used during filming.
Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment, was eager to announce the new season saying “Lego Masters raised the bar for all competition series, wowing fans with its wildly creative builds. Add to that our insanely dynamic host, Will Arnett, and it’s just a great hour of family-friendly fun. We can’t wait to see this new batch of Lego contestants attempt to master Season Two’s even bigger and better challenges, brick by brick.” While Arnett added “I’m looking forward to getting back to the fun with this next block of shows. To say that these Lego puns write themselves takes away from the work I’ve done over the last two and a half minutes.”
Lego Masters Season 2 will run on Fox sometime in 2021.
