Fallout 4 Mod Brings The Voice of Commander Shepard to the Wasteland

It’s been a solid couple of weeks for fans of major franchises like Mass Effect and Fallout. BioWare finally confirmed the long rumored Mass Effect Legendary Edition and Bethesda is getting ready to release the upcoming Fallout 76 Steel Dawn DLC in a few weeks away. Thanks to a new Fallout 4 mod, fans can now have a way to combined both franchises through Commander Shepard.

Fallout: Brotherhood is an “interactive movie mod” for 2015’s open world, action-RPG, Fallout 4, which features the iconic voice of Commander Shepard from the Mass Effect games as the flinty founder of the Brotherhood of Steel: Roger Maxson. Roger Maxson, who was played by Brett Elliott in the past Fallout games, is portrayed by the Shepard actor Mark Meer in this fan-made, Fallout 4 mod that focuses on the infamous Mariposa Military Base as well as the origin of the Brotherhood of Steel. This hour-long cinematic experience serves as a prequel to the prior Fallout Games and is available now to download from Nexus Mods and Bethesda’s website.

The group of modders who worked tirelessly on making this mod possible runs a YouTube channel called “ShoddyCast.” As far as Mark Meer’s involvement is concerned, he was approached by them once prior to this project, for a cameo role in a six-minute long video called “Hidden History: Mass Effect.” Having known him since then, ShoddyCast members weren’t hesitant to bring him into playing the grunt founder and the leader of the organization that runs around in Power Armor.

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, ShoddyCast member Josh, also revealed how this mod started out as a movie project for their Storyteller YouTube series, before it evolved into something much bigger, into this hour-long mod, that was in development for over three years. Josh further revealed how the team wanted to do something different for a change after producing over 70 episodes for their YouTube series, which spans over four seasons.

Fallout 4  is home to a staggering amount of achievements that includes high reception, a multitude of awards, and jaw-dropping sales since it initially launched back in 2015.  Fallout 4 became Bethesda’s most successful game after it shipped 12 million copies on its launch day. While the game was riddled with its usual set of bugs and glitches that plagued its performance, it was received well by the wider audience and was even approved by many as a favorable entry point in the series, thanks to its immersive and humungous open world, the new settlement building elements as well as some quality of life mods for both PC and console versions of the game.

What wasn’t well-received by the series’ dedicated fans was the sheer absence of true RPG elements, which includes its fairly simplified dialogue options, as well as true narrative consequences in its main story. Moreover, the addition of a multitude of fetch quests didn’t help either. Thankfully, Bethesda has been strong on the feedback side, adding more intricate dialogue options as well as leaning towards choice and consequences in its recent Fallout 76:Wastelanders DLC.

Fallout 4 is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One.
