In order to complete Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Operation Chaos side mission, players must decrypt a floppy disk. To do this, fans must first obtain a code and passphrase, which come through deciphering three pieces of evidence. While this multi-part process may initially seem quite confusing, players that reference the instructions in this guide should have little trouble identifying the requisite code and passphrase and decrypting the floppy disk in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
To begin, players should make sure that they have obtained the three pieces of evidence in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Those pieces of evidence are the Front Page of the Observer, A Coded Message, and a Numbers Station Broadcast, and here are details on the CoD: Black Ops Cold War missions that they come from:
- Front Page of the Observer: Upstairs in the bar in the Redlight, Greenlight mission.
- A Coded Message: Granted at the end of the Nowhere to Run mission.
- Numbers Station Broadcast: On a table in a warehouse in the Brick in the Wall mission.
With the three pieces of evidence in hand, players should examine the Front Page of the Observer and write down the letters that are red. They should then examine the Numbers Station Broadcast and work to rearrange the letters that they recorded from the Front Page of the Observer to match one of the cities that is listed. When that is done, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players should record the numbers that correspond to the city, as they will serve as the code for decrypting the floppy disk.
Fans should now examine A Coded Message, paying special attention to the row of blue and red numbers. It is a player’s job to recognize the patterns that are established by these numbers and then use those patterns to figure out what numbers should replace the question marks. These patterns could be something like the red numbers increasing by six and the blue numbers increasing by one, two, three, and four, and fans should record the mystery digits when they have solved this puzzle in CoD: Black Ops Cold War.
Players should now reference the Numbers Station Broadcast once again and find the city name that corresponds to the mystery numbers. This city name will serve as the passphrase in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Operation Chaos side mission, and fans now have everything that they need to decrypt the floppy disk. As such, all that is left to do is select “decrypt floppy disk” and then enter the code that was hidden in the Front Page of the Observer and the passphrase that was hidden in A Coded Message.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
