Walmart Will Have PS5 and Xbox Series X in Stock on Black Friday, But There’s A Catch

For some players, the past week has been filled with joy as they’ve set up and played their new PS5 or Xbox Series X consoles. Both of these pieces of hardware have been receiving glowing reviews with several outlets championing the PS5’s DualSense controller. Now it seems that Walmart will have another opportunity for players to land their own console during their Black Friday sale.

According to Walmart’s recently released Black Friday ad, the company will have more PS5 and Xbox Series X units in stock on November 25. However, before players begin lining up outside of their local Walmart, there is one small catch. These consoles will only be available online on Walmart.com starting at 7 PM ET.

This may dishearten some players looking to acquire their new console from the retailer. On the PS5’s launch day, Walmart announced that it would be selling more PS5 units at specific times throughout the day so that more players may have the opportunity to purchase. Unfortunately, this traffic turned out to be too large even with the multiple time periods provided, causing Walmart’s site to crash throughout the day.

Players looking to purchase their new console in person rather than try their luck on Walmart’s website aren’t completely out of luck, however. GameStop recently announced that it will have both the PS5 and Xbox Series X in stock at its brick and mortar stores on Black Friday. However, these quantities will be extremely limited, so players planning on getting their console from GameStop might want to plan for disappointment.

It’s no secret that the PS5 and the Xbox Series X have been in high demand since pre-orders went live. And while some players have managed to acquire the consoles for their personal use and enjoyment, other instances have not been quite as positive. Scalpers have become quite an issue, with some attempting to sell their PS5 on eBay for thousands of dollars. And while most players will patiently wait for their console of choice to come back in stock through reliable retailers, there seems like an unfortunate likelihood that some may pay these exorbitant prices.

Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have been selling extremely well, which has certainly not helped the console shortage. Recently, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer stated the launch of the Xbox Series X and Series S was the most successful launch in Xbox history. The previous Xbox record was held by the Xbox One in 2013 when the console sold over one million units within the first day of sales.

The PS5 and the Xbox Series X are available now.
