Among Us: 10 New Features We Would Love To See | Game Rant

There’s no game that has dominated air time on the internet over the last few months quite like Among Us. The deception game puts up to 10 players in a spaceship to figure out who are the crewmates completing tasks to make sure the ship runs well and who are the impostors.

Among Us has lots of unique features, from the various customization options for the characters to unique gameplay mechanics that make playing both as a crewmate and as an impostor a lot of fun. The game is set to grow even further, with many updates planned, and there are quite a few features that would make Among Us even more enjoyable.

10 In-Game Voice Chat

One of the fun elements of Among Us is trying to figure out whether an individual is lying. The current chatbox system works, but it’s a lot easier to lie through text than through actual talking. It would be nice if players had the option to actually speak to one another using microphones without using an outside application.

The developers could even have fun with adding this. What if having this in-game voice chat allowed players to talk to each other in-round through using proximity-based software?

9 Bigger Lobbies

As of now, Among Us only allows up to 10 players per room. It isn’t a terrible cap, but it does limit players from being able to explore having more than two impostors per round. Three impostors could easily win in 10-person lobbies as long as none of them get caught in the first round of killing.

The best way to approach adding players is by increasing the total to 15. This could allow for growth on the impostor team. If people want to do more than three impostors, let’s hope the developers consider even bigger rooms.

8 Expanding Customization

So far, the customizations for each character in the game is pretty significant. Players have the ability to change what color they would like to be, with up to 12 options. There is also the ability to add headwear, select a “skin,” and purchase a pet to follow the player around.

It would be nice to expand the colors, allowing players to use a slider to get the exact color they like. On top of this, it could be fun to add a feature where players can upload custom skins and hats others have created.

7 Friend System

As of now, there is no set Among Us system for finding and adding friends to play with. The game relies instead on room codes that the creator can send to friends independently for them to hop in and join.

While it isn’t a terrible system, it would be easier to create rooms and directly invite people. Plus, popular streamers of the game have had to hide the room code in order to avoid anyone joining. Giving each player an ID and allowing players to create friend lobbies just seems like a logical feature.

6 More Ways To Hide

As of now, impostors have had only one benefit when escaping a crime: there may be a vent nearby. Not only is it a great way to escape to another room, but it also allows impostors to hide in case they don’t want to walk around for a bit.

What would be interesting is adding more ways for impostors to shield themselves from the crowd. This could be especially beneficial for impostors who kill in a room that doesn’t have a vent as they may only have one escape. This would give impostors less of a chance to get caught upon killing an individual.

5 Additional Maps

This is an easy one, as it is among the most requested features for the game. As of now, players have been used to playing the same three maps: The Skeld, Polus, and Mira HQ. While the maps don’t deprive players of the ability to have unique experiences, it could easily become a bit stale.

The developers have announced that a new map is in the works, but adding just one may not quench the thirst for a new experience. Beyond just developing maps on their own, it would be interesting if they allowed custom maps at some point.

4 Disguises

This may be tough to implement, but what if impostors had the ability to disguise themselves as someone else in the lobby? This could be incredibly overpowered but with the proper restrictions, such as only using it once per game for one round, it could create some hilarious and mischievous scenarios.

This feature could work in framing someone else for the murder. It could also result in having to defend how a person was standing in the room while their corpse was lying in another. No matter how it goes, it could be a fun addition.

3 Traps

Another gameplay element that could be useful and fun for impostors is the use of traps within the ship. Sure, as it stands, impostors are able to sabotage the lights and various reactors within the maps. But what if the impostors were able to create their own traps?

This feature should also be limited to one use per game, but it would be a unique gameplay mechanic if impostors dropped a trap in one room and walked away. Someone would then walk on that trap and die without the perpetrator being present. It would cause people to watch their feet.

2 Roles

Many deception games out there rely on many different roles to balance out the game and allow for different gameplay each time. Among Us doesn’t struggle with having only two roles as the gameplay works with that in mind. However, could these roles be expanded?

The developers should consider giving a crewmate a sheriff-like ability to reveal someone’s identity or have a tool to help find the killer. Maybe there could be multiple types of impostors who use different methods to deceive crewmates. Or maybe, there could be someone neutral that is just looking to be killed.

1 Game Presets

This is a big one as players have figured out many different ways they can play Among Us. Whether it’s weird naming conventions or playing a good game of Hide-and-Seek, there is room for Among Us to adopt these game modes and implement them.

It would be great if players could set up presets for certain game modes so they don’t have to fidget with the settings each time they launch a lobby. This would be helpful even for those looking to play the game normally, as even those settings change between players.
