In what seems to be a conversation that may never go away, someone has stepped in to defend Twitch over permanently banning Dr. Disrespect. Many streamers have come out in support of Doc, asking for the reasoning behind the ban. However, popular streamer Shroud made some comments on his stream that highlight why he thinks Twitch isn’t required to reveal anything about the ban.
This past summer, professional streamer Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch seemingly overnight. There was no reasoning given for this and fan discussion ranged from the idea that Doc was starting his own streaming service to the thought that the man was wanted for national security concerns. Shroud, a former Counter-Strike pro and a popular Twitch streamer, made some statements when viewers mentioned the ban was stupid and unfair. He told fans that “People are saying that just because they don’t know. You can’t think a situation is stupid if you don’t have the information. That makes no sense at all.”
With Dr Disrespect streaming on YouTube, one viewer asked Shroud about the legalities of showing Doc videos on Twitch now. “I can watch a Doc video if I wanted to, I’m pretty sure anyway,” Shroud replied. “I just can’t play with Doc and associate with him… live on stream. But if I watched a video and it was a compilation [with him in it], that’s fine.”
When asked about why Twitch won’t give a reason for the ban, Shroud then responded that if Twitch “gave info on any ban that they’ve done… they would have to go through and give info on every single person.” In a recent stream, Doc himself hinted at a financial reason for his ban. He compared it to a high-ranking member of the military being let go so that three less-expensive cadets could take his place, seemingly pointing to Twitch removing Doc in favor of cheaper streamers—possibly including Shroud.
Shroud later added that if Twitch “felt the best decision was to not share why any single person is banned permanently, then I’m sure there’s a reason for it. Just trust it, and that’s it. It is what it is.” The odds are incredibly high that fans will never uncover exactly why Dr. Disrespect was banned from Twitch, but that won’t stop them from trying to figure it out. Doc himself is moving on to bigger and better things, including a possible Cyberpunk 2077 Dr. Disrespect overlap as well as a book slated to release next year.
Ultimately, Doc has found his way back into the spotlight on YouTube. He has started gathering his fans back to him, and it has been mostly going well. Disrespect recently designed a map for Rogue Company and the game now has a character skin in his image. However, his Twitch ban seems to have affected more than just his streaming, as his Discord and Call of Duty partnerships have also suffered.
