With the recent launch of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, players are thrust back into the eternal battle between the Templar Order and Brotherhood of Assassins (Order of Ancients and Hidden Ones in this entry). While this age-old conflict has gone increasingly worldwide in recent games, the latest entry returns to Europe once more. Taking charge of the protagonist Eivor, AC Valhalla’s storyline follows their attempts to forge a brighter future for the Viking people. MAJOR STORY SPOILERS AHEAD
Throughout the game, players can take stealthy approach to neutralizing targets or embrace the brutal legends of Viking lore. However, there will also be 5 important choices that directly affect the relationship with Sigurd, Eivor’s dear brother. Getting 3 Sigurd strikes will permanently taint his bond, locking players into the bad ending. Thankfully, it’s just as easy to get the best ending by choosing the more honorable option when prompted.
The first Assassin’s Creed Valhalla choice happens during “The Seas of Fate” chapter. Eivor suggests taking Kjotve the Cruel’s treasure to aid their passage into England, but Sigurd rebuffs this statement. The following dialogue has 2 options, but players must pick the second one “We leave the resources for Styrbjorn.” Sigurd will then praise Eivor stating that a wise leader thinks about the needs of everyone.
Players will stumble onto the second choice by speaking with Randvi, Sigurd’s wife, and asking if she is alright which starts the mission “Taken for Granted.” At the end of the mission, turn this Assassin’s Creed Valhalla romance down by selecting anything but the first option “I feel the same way,” otherwise Sigurd will eventually find out. Note that starting a relationship with Randvi later won’t give a Sigurd strike, but players must wait until they break up first.
During “Blood From a Stone,” Sigurd and Basim will start arguing with Eivor after the battle. While both men are making personal attacks at Eivor’s loyalty and pride, resist the urge to punch them by choosing “Take a breath” and “Enough of this” in the following conversations. Punching either will fail the choice, so be a better person and defuse the conversation instead of resorting to violence.
Later on, the “A Brewing Storm” quest has Eivor return to Ravensthorpe and get challenged to a duel by Dag. After besting him in combat, Dag will lay dying on the ground with his axe barely out of reach. Choose to “Give Dag his axe” and Eivor places it on his chest while wishing him luck in the afterlife. The other option will only upset Sigurd.
The final choice occurs after finishing both the Essexe and Suthsexe questlines. Sigurd will cast a harsh judgement to resolve the dispute between 2 Ravensthorpe citizens, and players must agree and say “I support Sigurd’s judgement” to avoid any conflict.
Once Valhalla is nearly finished, players will see the results of choosing these options. It should be noted that players can still disagree with him twice and obtain this ending.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
