It’s been almost a week since the Xbox Series X/S launched, and all over the world consumers and gaming enthusiasts are finally able to get their hands on the new consoles. In that time, the consoles have sold quite well in various regions, but now it appears the Xbox Series X is on track to beat Microsoft’s console sales record in the UK.
Following the launch of the console, the Xbox Series X/S has seen its fair share of success. Despite various pre-order delays, the Xbox Series X has already managed to reach a multitude of people. While it’s still to early to track the progress of total sales, it seems that in terms of launch numbers, the Series X may have already outpaced its predecessor, the Xbox One, in terms of UK sales.
After its initial launch inn 2013, the Xbox One sold 150,000 units in its first 48 hours. According to what publishers told Video Game Chronicle, now it seems the Xbox Series X/S may have sold over 155,000 units on launch day. The numbers have yet to be finalized, but if this is to be believed, that is quite the achievement.
What’s even more impressive is the fact that the Xbox Series S was also able to keep up in terms of sales. Of those 155,000 units, one third of the units sold were Xbox Series S, which is just over fifty thousand units. Since both consoles launched at the same time and both are able to play next-gen Xbox games, it seems fair to lump the sales together.
For Microsoft, this is definitely something to be proud of. These two consoles have been teased for the better part of several years, and now that both are commercially available it’s good to see expectant people looking to get their hands on the systems. However, while this is certainly impressive, it’s also bittersweet in a way.
Though the reported sales of the consoles in the UK are impressive, they still doesn’t beat out the sales record of the PS4 set in that region. In its first 48 hours, the PS4 sold over 250,000 units, beating out the previous sales record Sony had with the PlayStation Portable, which sold over 185,000 units. In any case, the numbers are still impressive, and perhaps when sales figures are finalized the number could potentially be higher than what is being first reported.
The Xbox Series X/S are available now.
