Ghost of Tsushima: Legends – Nightmare Week 5 Story Strategies

Ghost of Tsushima‘s weekly reset happens every Friday, so the week 5 Nightmare mode challenges have already begun. For the story mission this week, players will need to clear the The Veil Between Realms, the level that initially introduced the Kami attunement mechanic to players. Naturally, this Nightmare mode mission provides a whole host of challenges, but players will be able to overcome it if they go in prepared. There’s a lot to consider in terms of equipment, classes, and skill loadout, so those aiming to get the guaranteed piece of 110 gear this week should read onward for some helpful strategies.

For starters, players that haven’t yet reached at least 100 Ki don’t need to worry about Nightmare mode, as it isn’t even unlocked until that point. Even if it was, completing it when that low level would be nearly impossible. Going even further, it may be best to wait until players get closer to 105 Ki level (the maximum amount that Ghost of Tsushima: Legends‘ Gold level missions can reward), as this will provide a slight edge. Thankfully, the modifier on this week’s story isn’t nearly as punishing as last week’s, so with a lot of patience and dedication players should be able to clear this one.

As previously mentioned, the level players will be trying to complete this week is The Veil Between Realms, a tale that features a lot of complex parts. Players will need to juggle which attunement they have with which enemies their fighting, while also keeping track of what attunement their ally has as well. The modifier this week isn’t quite as bad as Ghost of Tsushima: Legends‘ week 4 Nightmare challenge, as it applies a buff to the player as well. Deadly Melee makes melee attacks from both players and enemies deal more damage.

Given the modifier, there are two directions players could take this. Equipping a powerful legendary sword will make melee damage impressive, but it also puts the player at risk getting up close and personal to enemies with boosted damage. For ranged weaponry, a bow is better than a bomb pack in this case since there are several archers that can be taken out from afar with a bow. As usual, charms and ghost weapons should prioritize survival and safe damage, so things like the smoke bomb and healing gourd can be a huge help here.

Throughout this Nightmare story mode, players will need to give their respects to floating Kami shrines. At this point players should be familiar with how to do this, using attunements to make platforms leading up to the shrines appear, but there’s one jump in particular that causes most players a lot of trouble. At the end of the first chapter of this story, players will need to honor a floating Kami shrine. The first platform is for the player with the sun attunement and the second is for the moon attunement player, but the third jump is difficult to land.

Players have to use their grappling hook after jumping, but if they jump too early they’ll be unable to latch on. To make this easier, it’s vital that players wait to jump until the very end of the platform, and aiming the view up towards the grapple point can also help with this endeavor. The player with the sun attunement needs to go first, though, as if the moon attuned player jumps first the platform will disappear out from underneath the other player. This part takes a few tries but thankfully there’s no fall damage in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

Aside from equipping high Ki level gear, communication is vital to success in all Nightmare mode story missions, but even more so here. The nature of The Veil Between Realms requires players to be in sync with each other at all times, so it’s best to play this with a friend over voice chat. If that simply can’t happen, using pings when playing online with randoms is a great way to make sure that both players are on the same page. It’s important to try and always have two different attunements to provide the most coverage for various enemies.

In this case, communication becomes even more important in the final chapter, as Gyozen’s Curse this time is set to always link players together. This is particularly challenging here as it means players will need to stick together when gathering attunements, making the process take a lot more time. Focusing critical strike/assassinations can also be more difficult here, as players will often be forced to make an assassination attempt on an enemy for which they don’t have the correct attunement. The tether does a lot of damage very quickly if players get too far apart, so it is of the utmost importance that players stick together.

In terms of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends class combinations, this mission doesn’t require anything overtly specialized. All four of the available classes perform well here, though classes like the Samurai will benefit the most from this week’s modifier. A lot of this mission can be done stealthily as well, so a pair of Assassins could make quick work of certain encounters here. For this mission in particular, it’s best for players to equip their strongest items that suit their own playstyle, but it’s important to keep in mind that a ranged option like a bow can be a huge help and to remember that enemies will be dealing increased damage.

As usual, in order to get a piece of 110 Ki gear, players will need to beat this story mission while completing all three bonus objectives. This includes Gyozen’s Lost Scroll, the Oni Treasure, and Gyozen’s Curse. The scroll is the easiest of the three to complete, as it can be found after all enemies have been defeated. For the treasure, it’s best to wait until the Torii gate appears to open it, and collecting explosive barrels near the treasure can make dealing with enemies easier. With any luck, players can nab themselves a powerful piece of max level gear and prepare for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends‘ raid.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is available now on PS4 and PS5.
